Q: Can't login? A: Update security key!
Unable to login to the game or at swtor.com and have a security key attached to your game account? Try to update your security key! I was using the old SWTOR Security Key mobile app that displayed an 8-digit code, not the new app that displays a 6-digit code. From memory, here's roughly what I did to update my security key:
Around one year ago to the day, I think the new mobile app was released and the security key was opened up to third-party services like the Google Authenticator mobile app. I'm guessing security keys set up before that time need to be updated. No idea about the the physical keys.
- login at swtor.com with display name and password only (no security key)
- click Lost Your Security Key?
- click Send One-Time Password
- impatiently refresh your e-mail inbox about a dozen times and then enter the one-time password
- click My SWTOR > Security Key Setup (or My Account > Security Key)
- click Remove my Security Key
- delete old mobile app from your device
- install and launch the new mobile app
- set up a new security key
- login to the game and enjoy!
