Thought I'd include a pic from the tutorial. I decided to create "Aeoriel', your typical half-naked angel alt. I gave him a flirty personality for shock value. This way while he's hanging out at the precinct houses he can give all those hot cops his "How YOU doin'?" look.

One more thing...I don't know who modded Superman for the game but I just gotta say daaaaaaaaang, Supes is definitely packing!!!

Re: World of Tanks

My pleasure :)

Here are some tips I picked up early on:

  • Movement and firing flags you to the enemy if they are within detection range.
  • Hiding in hedges helps you camouflage.
  • Softening the armour on an enemy tank is basically asking for someone to steal your kill, but you get more XP for the damage than the actual kill. :)
  • Whilst sitting still in a shrub and targeting an enemy armour, wait for the targeting circle to tighten up to ensure you have a better shot. Keep in mind, though, that they will see you if they are close enough.
  • Your firing arc is realistic. Trying to fire over short walls is OK, but only if your gun barrel is higher than the wall, firing down from a hill is OK only if your entire tank is angled downward; if you are level, your gun will not track down beyond a certain angle.
  • Your turret tracks much more slowly than your camera pans. Don't waste shells trying to shoot something until your gun has lined up.
  • Driving up hills is a slow, arduous process. Research and purchase stronger engines.
  • (If you play SPG) Your artillery will have better range if you park on an uphill incline, but you will lose the ability to fire on short range opponents.
  • Upgrading your suspension allows your tank to turn faster, upgrading your turret allows faster tracking as well as better view range
  • Upgrading your radio allows you to broadcast enemy locations further so that your teammates within range of your radio can see them on the map. (And SPGs to target them from further away).

I'm dead chuffed about this game, too, so I'll be happy answer any questions about it. ^.^

My handle there is the same as here. :) Look me up once you're in. ^.^ If we get enough pipplez we can form a platoon. :D

I got the game yesterday and played for several hours.
I like the graphics and it plays pretty smoothly. It's still suffering a bit from "new-game-itis" but it didn't crash while I was playing, and there wasn't much lag at all. I got DC'd a few times during loading screens. I didn't come across any major bugs. More importantly, I had a lot of fun.
Character creation isn't as full as CoH/CoV, (You just can't help comparing), but its way better then many other games. The tutorial is pretty thin, it gets you into the game, but you really need to figure out most of the game on your own. I like the voice overs from the iconic super heroes, You're constantly getting calls from Batman, or Wonder Woman, that sort of thing. The missions I've played so far are pretty average, kill 10 rats, defend some NPCs from 10 rats, fight your way past 10 rats and help some "real Superhero" kill a boss rat. But, as I said before, I had fun doing it.

My toon is only level 10, and I've only played hero side, so I can't really give a considered review yet, but it seems like a pretty solid game so far.

Anyone have plans to found a Stonewall League?

Things to remember for Roleplay

January 18 2011
Remember we will be using the SFRoleplay channel for all Roleplay event communications.

Stay in character - If you need to leave, request to do to Sickbay or your quarters.

If you become disruptive and not follow the event, you will be asked to go to Brig or Sickbay.

Remember, the Captain of the event is the leader. The leader will lead how the event will progress.

Re: Open mindedness

January 17 2011
I was trying to keep out of this discussion because whenever I get into this topic I tend not to make many friends, but it was just too tempting.

Just because someone doesn't believe the same things you do doesn't make them closed-minded. In the case of the moving lampshade, how was the narrator being closed-minded to his friend's theory of "ghost did it"? He found the real world cause and demonstrated it. Just because he wasn't content with the first explanation someone else provided doesn't make him closed-minded, it just makes him a good scientist.

Would you mind listing and/or describing some of these "other methods of proof, logic, and reasoning" for me?

I just have a hard time understanding why people don't like science. Science isn't something to be 'for' or 'against'. It simply is. It is a tool (or set of methodologies, for the literal minded) that we use to understand the world around us. It is true that individuals can choose to do good things or bad things with the knowledge that is gained, however this isn't a reflection on science but rather a reflection on those individuals.

Re: Open mindedness

Watching the video again, I think it's being misinterpreted. They are not saying that there's nothing out there that's unexplained. What they're saying is that people who explain something away as supernatural, rather than investigate what is really going on (or even if something really is going on), are practicing the very closed-mindedness that some of those people then turn around and pin on non-believers for not believing in their supernatural explanation. The believers sometimes "close their minds" to any other possible explanation.

My personal fear is that once we come up with a supernatural explanation of something, some people are satisfied, and stop looking for a natural explanation. If we (meaning mankind) still accepted weather gods and anthropomorphic winds as the cause of weather, we would never have developed the remarkable long-range weather forecasting and early warning systems we have today for hurricanes and tornadoes and the like.

Who's to say that scientists may not one day discover that there is some rational explanation for hauntings, ESP, horoscopes, precognition, and a slew of other apparently supernatural phenomena?

As for scientists only being open to one kind of proof, I would be interested to hear what other type(s) of proof are possible. I don't mean this as a slam against anyone, I am honestly curious. And very much enjoying the exchange of ideas!

Cheers!

Quote by QiqJoe
What I have a problem with is his explanation of open-mindedness. He claims to be open-minded, but is only open to one method of proof and belief. I think he was confusing open-mindedness with scientific proof. Many other methods of proof, logic, and reasoning exist than his particular brand of it. I don't disagree with his logic, but I do disagree that he is open-minded. The main thing from which I draw this is his want and desire to prove his friends wrong on every account as opposed to trying to understand their points-of-view. If he tried to understand them, then that would be open-mindedness.

**claps** Well said!!
