Thanks for the friend addition, the bulk of our time online is usually Weds-Sat and like I said, we will be sure to keep an eye out.

Our squad is new, but the remaining members are veterans.

I suppose i ought to reintroduce myself. I joined the fleet in march last year, but after levelling I found the endgame content to be lacking and so I went back to World of Warcraft.

Since then I've been quite busy, I got a job as a flash game developer, bought an appartment and got married. (I also graduated college in february '10, so it was quite the year).

The only downside of my new job is the 2 hour travel distance, which meant that I no longer had the time or energy to play warcraft at a hardcore raider level as I had for 4 years previous.

So I decided to check in again at Star Trek Online to see how the game has improved over the past years, and boy has it ever!

I'm levelling a new Science officer, Snownovae@Snownova, currently at commander. My old toon Snow@Snownova was a RA engineer, but being my first char I made some major mistakes levelling him.

Hiya all!

I'm @Raikoh in game. I'm currently in another Fleet (Synergy), but like Altimus, Stonewall caught my eye. I like my fleet and they are great people, but its nice to have a "sanctuary" I can be myself with others outside of my fleet, maybe even talk to and joke around with. I hope that I get know all of you and become a "Honorary Member" :P Cheers!

Sorry I missed the event guys. Something came up and I wasn't available until about half an hour into it, and I didn't want to interrupt anything. I really do enjoy these things though and am looking forward to the next event!

Re: SWTOR/STO healing from a canon perspective

March 12 2011
Quote by DCollins
We would all love to see cannon in everything that relates to our beloved movies.. However with game mechanics it just does not work.. Can you imagine having to have your healer in the middle of ground combat in STO run up to you and hit you with a hypo?

You're taking the standard healthbar/healing/death model that we see in almost every MMORPG now as a given. This model isn't 'the game mechanics', it's just one way of doing combat that designers now seem terrified of changing or incapable of imagining differently, despite the difficulty it creates with the IP and, frankly, the sheer repetitiveness of it.

LotRO made a bit of an effort in this regard by switching 'health' to 'morale', which helps make the healing abilities of Minstrels, Captains etc make a little more sense. Rather than dying, you fall back or retreat from battle. IP intact, gameplay intact.

GW2 looks to be doing away with healing classes entirely, which despite being a healer in almost every game I play I thoroughly approve of. Also, their idea for replacing 'dead' with 'downed' (a state in which you can still do stuff) suggests to me that it's possible to reimagine this health/heals/death model that has become so dominant.

I would prefer to see healthbars done away with entirely in some MMORPGs, especially ones with a strong IP base in which regular death and resurrection makes no sense.

@SaintPlazma, I must admit... I was a Federation fanboy while playing BotF. LOL Although, I enjoyed playing all five major races you just had to tweak your play style depending on which of them you were playing at the time.

@Jasonmillard, The game you tried must have been MOO3 by Quicksilver I belive. Both BotF and MOO2 were by Microprose.

Here are the intro's for each of the 5 main powers in the game. Bring back any memories? hehehe

Re: Copying your Keybinds

Be sure to back those up outside of the STO directory, otherwise if you have to uninstall for any reason, even to reinstall the game fresh, they will be deleted.

I've never had a game delete user created files within its main directory, just the ones necessary for gameplay; but STO wipes out absolutely everything on an uninstall. Like Cryptic offering the middle finger for us uninstalling their game.

Oh geez the hours I spent on BotF could fill the Tardis. Loved Loved Loved that game, I was reading about it in gamer magazines for months before it came out. I was particularly good at playing as the Romulans and the Ferengi. I played Masters of Orion but I don't remember if it was 2 or 3 but it sucked so it must've been 3.

@Snownova, I agree with you... I waited patiently for them to release MOO3 for years... and when I finally got a copy... I couldn't believe what garbage it was.

BotF was so much fun... I used to play it online with friends all the time. I never got into Galactic Civilizations but I've heard great things about it.

@Halish, BotF is kinda like a Star Trek version of Master Of Orion 2. I still play MOO2 sometimes myself. It's a classic game and should they ever make a MOO4... Here's hoping they actually do it justice!

It comes up when you do the search, it's just really low for some reason, #37.

The link is http://www.stonewallfleet.com/diplomacy-guide.

In other words it's not easily accessible...can you please add it to the Welcome Center or somewhere more prominent? Seems appropriate since it's such a useful resource.
