Re: Cheesy Pop Event!

April 08 2011
Well thats the first of many cheesy pop events over and done with! A huge thanks to all who attended.

Lets get to the math, we raised well over 700 data samples with around 20 rares between our participants and some very generous donations! Here is the run down of who came what;

1st- Zerpari
2nd Attitude
3rd- Eventhorizon

A very special thanks goes to Flounder44 for his more than generous contributions.

These lucky winners will get to request songs for the next event which will be held in 2 weeks time, the 21st of April at 9pm GMT, 4pm EST and 1pm PST. For now... CheesyPop, out!

I'm trying to think of the first culture that reviled gays.

I don't recall the mention of it in Chinese history, but it's possible that Mao's regime erased mention of anything objectionable from the history books. (Mao was a bit of a nut job. Believed that he was the smartest, most well educated man in the world and imprisoned or executed anyone with a higher education than himself.)

I never really got into Egyptian cultural history, but I do remember that other cultures of that era (Pre-christian Rome and Greece) were very accepting of gays (Emperor Hadrianus of Rome, for example, was gay).

I'd be curious to know the answer to that question.

I'm not sure about non-European cultures, but the earliest anti-homosexual laws were based by Constantine at around 400 BC during the decline or end of the Roman Empire.

I often say the more advanced we become the more ignorant we become :)

However if this is proven to be a fact perhaps it will have an impact on how we are viewed..

Data Sample Farming Made (slightly) Easier!

April 07 2011
If you're like me you probably just want to veg out and farm as much as you can in as short a time as possible. With the games built in Autopilot you can!

THIS IS NOT BOTTING as you must press a key for each step. this won't work if you're not at your computer.

It takes just 4(x3) easy steps!

1. Do explore missions until you get an Aid the Planet mission.
Do a quick scan for clickies.
If there are 4 anomolies (a.k.a. Om-nom-olies) then don't complete the mission.
(If there are fewer than 4 complete it and keep lookin'.)
2. Accept the mission but don't complete it.

3. Go to the first Om-nom-oly and get to less than 1 km away.
now type
/loc

it should give you your coordinates something like
-430 -42 727

Now you should bind this to a key using the Autopilot command:
NavToXYZ
. I use the number pad for this since I don't usually my NumPad. Also you have to put a 4th variable at the end which is the distance the autopilot will get from the target coordinates before it stops. I usually put a 1 (one map unit)
4. Type the autopilot bind as below with the coordinates you're given.
/bind Numpad1 Navtoxyz -430 -42 727 1

Do the /loc and keybind for the other 3 data samples.

   /bind Numpad2 Navtoxyz -857 -751 942 1
   /bind Numpad3 Navtoxyz -1326 -237 36 1
   /bind Numpad4 Navtoxyz 188 551 -1896 1

Now, Abort mission/Depart system

You should see the mission in the notification area (usually on the screen's lower right)
Click it and it will take you back to the Aid the Planet mission you were just in, but the Data samples will be back/respawned. not only that, but in the exact same place. always.
So, push your keybind (I push numpad1)then go to full impulse power and it will take you straight to the Om-nom-oly AND stop there. (the first one you may need to click the keybind 2 times or it will just keep going straight, and sometimes it orbits the data sample, but you can still scan match the frequency and pick it up)

My only question would be: Does this mean most cavemen were more enlightened about sexual orientation then the bigots are today? They allowed this guy to grow to adluthood and gave him full burial rights according to custom.

I wonder if the caveman westboro baptists protested his funeral.

Ok, also going to add in B'Tran, normal for those, what I now know as yellows, they look brown to me.

But if you are VA I hope that you will go into the VA version as well, as the purple data samples don't appear in any other sector space other than there. Those are in short supply :(

This would be extremely interesting if true. Of course it would only become an "accepted" interpretation of a site so long as others in the field agree with the interpretation of the burial site. Time will tell.

I'm loathe to believe anything the Daily Fail put in their news.

Still, it's an interesting cultural anomaly from the standard burial rites.

World's First 'Gay' Caveman

April 07 2011

Archaeologists who uncovered this 5,000-year-old man in the Czech Republic believe the Stone Age-era skeleton is the first-ever gay caveman discovered. How come? Because of the way he was buried. And I'm not talking about the way it looks like he's bent over ready to receive.

During that period [between 2900 and 2500 BC], men were traditionally buried lying on their right side with the head pointing towards the west; women on their left side with the head facing east. In this case, the man was on his left side with his head facing west. Another clue is that men tended to be interred with weapons, hammers and flint knives as well as several portions of food and drink to accompany them to the other side. Women would be buried with necklaces made from teeth, pets, and copper earrings, as well as domestic jugs and an egg-shaped pot placed near the feet. The ‘gay caveman’ was buried with household jugs, and no weapons.

Except wouldn't burying the dead man in the ritual of a woman actually make him not gay, but trans? Or maybe he was actually intersex, but lived as a woman? Ah right. But the Daily Mail went another direction.

Archaeologists do not think it was a mistake or coincidence given the importance attached to funerals during the period, known as the Corded Ware era because of the pottery it produced. From history and ethnology, we know that people from this period took funeral rites very seriously so it is highly unlikely that this positioning was a mistake,’ said lead researcher Kamila Remisova Vesinova. ‘Far more likely is that he was a man with a different sexual orientation, homosexual or transvestite. What we see here does not add up to traditional Corded Ware cultural norms.’

Maybe I should try installing it on my Win7 64 bit... If it doesn't pan out... I suppose I could always install it on the XP mode virtual machine.

Yeah, Afehirr is lower than VA :D

I just took a look at the samples the Carfting Corps need and it was greens and purples, but no doubt these will be getting swapped for different events.

I am toying with the idea of adding in another nebula for the brownish ones, but still to find what one :)

Oh yes! Awesome Awesome Awesome! The new season looks great and its about time too. This is the only reason I pay extra on my cable bill to get BBC America (that and Top Gear for my BF). I'm also very much looking forward to the new Torchwood series, I've missed me some Cap'n Jack (sigh).
