It's fun to think today's insipid pop culture reference may be the literary classics of the future. Maybe your other ship should be the U.S.S. Taylor Lautner. (Ooh, imagine the comments you'd get from strangers in-game.)

I like your explanation better than any I could think up.

But now you have me wondering how they button up their shirts with those huge, long fingers. Maybe they have to get humans to dress them using their post-hypnotic powers. But now that people are out to kill them all, there's nobody to dress and undress them, so the next time we see them, can we expect their suits to be even wrinklier?

OK, maybe I think about this stuff too much. I'm going to bed.

As much as I like the Simpsons, I think it's way over due. They really lost it a long time ago. The last time I saw an episode a a couple of weeks ago, I thought it was awfully a lot like other episodes.

The Simpsons facing the Axe after 24 years

October 07 2011
Quote by Telegraph.co.uk

The animated series has been a fixture of the schedules since 1989 and is in its 23rd season, making it one of the biggest success stories in television history and a cash cow for Fox Television.

However, a contract dispute threatens to bring the show to an end.

Executives at the network have reportedly said that the show will close down in the spring unless cast members take a 45 per cent pay cut.

Dan Castellaneta voices Homer Simpson, the family patriarch, with Julia Kavner as Marge and Nancy Cartwright as Bart. The actors also lend their voices to other characters in the show and are paid handsomely – each earning an estimated $8 million per year. Their proposal for a 30 per cent cut in exchange for a percentage of the show's profits from global syndication and merchandising has been turned down by Fox.

A show insider told the Daily Beast website: "Fox is taking the position that unless they can cut the production costs really drastically, they'll pull the plug on new shows.

"The show has made billions in profits over the years and will continue to do so as far as the eye can see down the road. The actors are willing to take a pay cut of roughly a third, but that's not good enough for Fox."

On Tuesday, 20th Century Fox TV stated. "23 seasons in, The Simpsons is as creatively vibrant as ever and beloved by millions around the world. We believe this brilliant series can and should continue, but we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model.

"We are hopeful that we can reach an agreement with the voice cast that allows The Simpsons to go on entertaining audiences with original episodes for many years to come."

The Simpsons was devised by Matt Groening, who took just 15 minutes to sketch the characters and named them after members of his own family.

They made their debut in a series of short animated features in The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987 and were granted their own series two years later.

Groening once said: "One of the great things about animation is that your characters don't have to age. Bart's had his 10th birthday on the show three times already."

I stopped watching it years ago, but this is pretty sad to hear.

Hey all,
I'm buying a new rig for ... well, really for Skyrim to be honest, but TOR too :)
Anyway, I was considering shelling out for the 3 monitor wraparound immersion thing.

Does anyone have that?
Like it?
Recommend it?

Would I be better off with one bigger better monitor?

Is it a drain on the Graphics Card to support 3, such that I will get better quality if I stick to one?

Thanks...

Also, was it ever explained why the "Silence" aliens all wear rumpled suits?

I'm guessing it's to make them look extra creepy. The makers of Doctor Who seem to have struck on this fantastic truth that combining something freakish and alien with something familiar, dull and ordinary makes it even scarier and more creepish. ("Are you my mommy?" Though nothing about that was alien in appearance.)

=edit=

When I named my VA ships, I had a feeling most folks would opt for meaningful and well thought out ship names. I therefore went for insipid pop culture references:

USS Bi-Winning
USS 99 Problems

I'm still trying to think of a third ship name for my VA Fed engineer.

I have to agree with Propecius; this is one of the few shows that I cannot figure out the plot twists ahead of time which is a delight. I kept thinking; "ok how is he not gonna die this time?" I totally thought the Doctor that was killed at the Lake was going to be a rebel flesh clone but I was yet again surprised.

And the end; we finally know "the question!" hehe, I won't say it on here for those who haven't seen the episode yet. As dear Professor Song would say; "spoilers!"

*does a little Dance* count me in for the Beta Testing!!!!

I give thanks to the Beta Testing gods... I also got into the Beta for Diablo 3! I just feel bad that my fiancee DakonKor hasn't got into either test.

Random Question:

Does anyone know if they differentiate between those accepted for the beta weekend and those accepted to the testing program?? because mine says testing program but I just wanted to know.

Hey Mikey if your in the regular test it will say so if your in the beta testing weekend it will indicate a start and end date....I think thats what you were asking:) if not then I don't know:) If you mean does it mean you won't get into the regular beta from what I understand no as they are two separate programs from my understanding. I believe Mr. Reid has a post somewhere about the two.

Sorry still waking up I think you meant can you get into both and the answer is yes.

I'm sad for Steve Jobs' family and friends for their loss, and the tragic circumstances of his death through disease. That however, doesn't excuse the heinous practices of Apple as a company, gets away with. They are a truly horrible monopolising corporate entity, far worse in my eyes than any other. Some it seems, would rather live in ignorance of their behaviour in blind defence of the company because of its apparent status right now.

October 06 2011
It was a complete shock when I received Tim's email in my inbox today at work. Since my position places me at my email more than anyone else, I took it upon myself to let everyone know. Within minutes, the entire store was aware and we all felt if we had just been told that our father had died. It's been a rough evening to say the least. He was a huge inspiration to me, along with the rest of the world, and he will never be forgotten. Work tomorrow will not be the same but we will continue marching forth to carry out his vision. Here is one of my favorite pieces of Apple literature:
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Apple: Think Different

RIP Steve, we miss you already.

Steve Jobs passes away at 56.

October 06 2011
Steve Jobs has passed away. As confirmed on Apple's site, Mr. Jobs has died at the age of 56 after recently stepping down from the position of CEO and naming Tim Cook his successor. Steve has had a profound effect on the world of technology, both at Apple and through his many other endeavors. Our thoughts go out to his family.

Tim Cook:
Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve's extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Tim

Apple Board of Directors:
We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

Steve Jobs' family today made the following statement regarding his death:
Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve's illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.

Bill Gates:
I'm truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs' death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.

Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.

The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.

For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.
