Re: What's in a name?

January 11 2012
I don't want to throw a wrench in the naming process, but what about Stonewall United or Stonewall Guilds United. In Google the only other thing that comes up is the Stonewall United Methodist church. So it would get noticed.

Just a suggesstion.

Re: What is it with politicians named Rick??

January 11 2012
I'm more of an anarchosocialist than anything, and feel like I was born in the wrong country. For local offices, I generally vote Green, and where I live, they occasionally get in. (Heck, we have some city districts where the council members who run are neither Democrat nor Republican. Minnesota is an odd political beast.) But nationally? I'm stuck. I like some of what Obama has done, but it feels like it all gets negated by things like the overturn of habeas corpus. And yet, I am about as not-Republican as you can get, so I'm not going to vote for them. (This was not always the case, but I used to go to a church that pretty much insisted you vote Republican. It's amazing what can be got away with if it's not coming from the pulpit.) So, I feel like I'm stuck voting for a presidential candidate who did something I believe was dangerous and despicable (yes, I know it's more complicated than that, but really, he should have held his original stance).

Oy.

Re: Now Recruiting Captains!

January 11 2012
Yes, what Halish said.

It's not an obligation of the Captains to tackle anyone who is making the chat channel unpleasant for people, only to change the subject or remind them why the rules are there if they feel ok doing that. Luckily we have a great group of people here and this part of the role is rarely needed.

Another part of making the channels friendly is trying to reply to people (as long as you're not busy fighting) who say hello to everyone, or who are having trouble getting a question answered. Even if we don't know the answer to the question, it's always helpful to remind people that they are not being ignored.

Count me in. I would love pink laser for my Smuggler as well. It could be our guild signature. Since we are a guild founded on the ideals of LGBT unification it would only be fitting for us to pay homage to the pink triangle from the holocaust.

Let's make this happen. We can start getting the necessary elements asap so that way we can go back and help others get the crystal later.

I'm gonna need two crystals so I can lead a second run for anyone else who would like the crystal as well.

It wasn't a problem at all. I loved it actually. Glad I can pass on the datacron knowledge and help out my guild mates.

Re: What is it with politicians named Rick??

January 10 2012
I generally try to stay away from political discussions when among friends. I believe that people hold specific political (and religious) viewpoints because life brought them to that point for one reason or another. No body holds a political or religious view point "just because."

To write off an entire party as "liberal kooks" or "conservative bigots" does nothing to advance the actual discussion of issues in any meaningful way.

I went from a school-indoctrinated liberal, to a right-wing nut, and have finally settled somewhere center-right. My biggest issue with BOTH parties is that they BOTH are about increasing and further defining government intrusion and power over individual liberty and rights, just in different ways.

The Democrats shout from the rooftops about freedom of speech, social equality, the end of bullying, etc. Google "Santorum" and check the first result to see just how much they value their own stance about social tolerance. But even if we were to take them at face value about the social issues, they are all about advancing government control over fiscal matters: regulation, increased government programs, punitive taxation, and the list goes on.

The Republicans on the other hand rail against government intrusion, promote lower taxes for all, taking personal responsibility, and that states should be given greater authority and the federal less. But what is the first thing they want to do? Constitutionalize discrimination by promoting federal Defense of Marriage laws, trying to regulate medical matters (primarily abortion, and while I'm pro-life, I believe that is something that should be handled on a grass-roots community level, rather than regulated at the federal level).

I am DYING for a candidate who is consistent on matters, one that is for INCREASING individual liberties, and DECREASING government intrusion. This means liberty both in the opportunity to succeed or fail financially on our own, and our liberty to succeed or fail in pursuing happiness on our own. I want the government out of my bedroom as much as I want it out of my wallet.

The problem is with the way our two-party system has become entrenched in modern politics, your choices are social liberty but financial constraint, or social constraint and financial liberty. I don't understand why more people don't see the absurdity of this narrow set of choices and stop voting for the people the media tell us we need to vote for.

Next year I'm stuck: I'm lucky enough to have the right to have married at the moment, but now I need to decide of all the issues out there, which is the most immediate and critical. Do I vote for the guy who doesn't recognize my union, but has sound reasoning for my primary political issue, or do I go with the guy who tells me that while he disagrees with my union, he doesn't think he can stand in the way of it, but has given me three years of the most absurd decision making on my primary political issue.

I know what that primary issue is for me this election cycle. To me, I believe this particular one can mean whether our nation will be able to stand strong enough to defend my liberties whichever ones it happens to support at this time. The problem is, I literally, need to select the lesser of two evils because, for me, the critical nature of my personal primary political issue trumps just about everything else at the moment.

What I wouldn't give for a more viable third-party that is closer to the libertarian side of the political spectrum.

I vote for all of them!!!

Like many folks I've been so involved in the story that I've forgotten about doing flashpoints/instances and only do datacrons when someone reminds me. My jediknight is still kind of low only lvl 27 and my smuggler is only lvl 32 but I'm willing to help and join in. Just let me know what is needed.

A side note: I find that doing stuff with the guild is much more enjoyable then pugging (fill in here with what ever). Organized events are a great way for us to spread our comfort zone and meet more guildies.

We should start organizing a list of these offbeat types of items/encounters (such as Datacron hunting) and plan reoccurring events to obtain them as people enter into the level range for eligibility.

Wow! Was thinking of this yesterday and while Xal was helping us get two datacrons on Hoth. I wonder if there is any interest from the guild members for organizing datacron runs?

The pope is just a man. He has no phone-line straight to God and his blind followers really need to realise that.

A few years ago this guy said that Homosexuality was a bigger threat to mankind than deforestation. He preaches that people shouldn't use condoms while millions of people in the third world die believing what he says.

He visited the UK not so long ago. We have rules here that preaching hate is illegal and I was outraged when the British government allowed him to set foot on our soil. He should have been arrested the moment his feet touched the ground. But that's a political choice brought on by fear and fear is exactly how the Catholic church manages to keep people believing their lies.

The man is a fool and shouldn't be given a single moment of our time.

Aww... silly religious leaders and their hateful comments. How... inferior.

See... they know that one day, humanity, that which we apparently somehow "undermine" (I'm guessing because we don't naturally procreate? Only reason I can come up with) will evolve above and beyond the need for organized religion. This threatens their domain (not just this dude; hell, the others just stone their gays!), and like any other nation, they must posture rally, and say things to gain support, even though thousands of their minions are like us.

Don't be mad bud... but instead, take solace, in that we need not God (nor any other feeble human explanation) on our side to prevail in our quest for equality, because we have something vastly more powerful on our side (and they know it): the truth. :)

I am more than willing to show the guildies around to the various datacrons locations. I have found all of them up to and now including Hoth and I love to help people get tham as well.

Also I am in great favor of the world boss and heroics idea. Without the necessary groups I know I have had to skip them and come back for them only when I outlevel the plant so that I can solo them. I would like to give my fellow guildmates a chance to do them as they level so that no one misses out on the experience, the credits, and the bonding that the guild events can create.

PLease let me know any way I can help with these events.

I was thinking about something for the Datacrons, but you beat me to it.

The Heroic Event night we had last Friday night went fair. There was 2 groups at the CST time and 1 group at the PST slots on the Imp side. Unfortunately, I couldn't line up anyone on the Rep side to lead that side. Sorry!

I would like to see or help organize events to kill the world bosses on each of the non-starter planets. There's a lore entry associated with each one, some loot, and it appears every planet after the first has one. Would be a fun way to engage a lot of guildies at once =)
