This is great! I've been 50 for a little while (it's like repeating birthdays, you know), but just now got to my Battle of Ilum Flashpoint. Haven't been able to find anyone to do it with just yet, but good to know what lies beyond and how to go about it. Thanks :)

KOS/LOS/Custom Channel problems?

February 22 2012
Hey guys,

I thought I'd share with all of you a little tidbit that was brought to our attention on the Captains group. It's been mentioned that some people may be noticing that when they log in they aren't joining the KOS/LOS or other custom channels. We think we know why now!

First off let me say that We are not booting anyone from these channels! So that's the good news. The issue seems to be that SW:TOR only seems to remember 2 custom channels on each of your characters. The channels that it seems to remember I would imagine are the first 2 custom channels you join.

To help remedy this problem, you can leave all of your custom channels then join the 2 most frequently used channels first (one would imagine KOS or LOS would be in the top two). I can't say this will cure everyone's problem, but it should help some of you!

Hope it helps!

Re: - HOW TO MAKE A STAR TREK LIKE SECURE PASSWORD -

My hubby stumbled across some useful bit of advice, particularly for cell phone security: If you use a number or letter more than once in a pin, it makes it more difficult to guess the password or unlock pin by looking at finger smudges or other visual cues.

The glory of working at a financial institution that has an app for smartphones to do your banking, and having time to pick the brain of one of the IT guys within the company who worked on it.

The only time a trick like that wouldn't work would be against a keylogger. My one suggestion might be for whose who are technically savvy check out a service called LastPass, it has a built in password generator (right now only geared to work with websites, but can be used beyond the intended purpose if you're tricky). For use on the PC LastPass is free, but if you want some of the more advanced features it's only $12 for a full year of access.

Re: - HOW TO MAKE A STAR TREK LIKE SECURE PASSWORD -

February 22 2012
I learned a trick to creating strong passwords a few years ago.

Come up with something you are intimately familiar with, then generate the password based on the first letter of each word in a memorable phrase.

For example, if you're a huge fan of Star Trek you might come up with something like "Humans made first contact with Vulcans in 2063".

Your password would then be HmfcwVi2063.

This can work with special characters as well.

WR&DTwmi2362 - William Riker & Deanna Troi were married in 2362 (totally made up the year).

WTRwc#2 - William T. Riker was called #2.

My hubby stumbled across some useful bit of advice, particularly for cell phone security: If you use a number or letter more than once in a pin, it makes it more difficult to guess the password or unlock pin by looking at finger smudges or other visual cues.

Companions/Gifts etc

February 21 2012
I am a new member to this guild and I may be overlooking a more comprehensive post and if so please point me so I dont muss up again .... however i want to share a link to what I been using to help me get my presence up on various toons.

The link is Companion Gifts (understand the display)

While many know of swtor spy .. what you need to understand in looking at this when drilling down into a particular companion is light and dark side matter alot. Like with Ashara, if you are dark side; the like love in the first reference seems to be for dark sided folks and the second column seems to be for light sided minded folks .. AKA very hard to please if you are dark! (not sure this is true for all their documentation but you will notice when giving gifts)

There are some other guides that don't take into consideration light and dark and that can mean different things depending on how you are playing your toon etc.

If you are just looking for a quick reference and willing to forgo the idea of dark and light sided toons for either empire or republic .... this one might work for you ... I have kinda made a copy of this then sorted by toon type as I start to play these toons and unlock the companions.

Companion Guide not broken out by Light and Dark but general guide

Gift giving wasnt on my priority list my first toon to 50 and not saying it should be on yours .. but it does unlock story content, items and help your presence which may be useful in dailies even at level 50. I may be blowing cash sending my gatherers out for gifts, but I do enjoy the storyline each comrade is starting to offer.

Another thing to keep in mind is diminishing returns; if your affection is say level 4 (aka 8k or so) dont waste giving them level 1-2 stuff ... 3 if you have to but try to give them level 4 or better .. think of it as a 10k breakdown so level 1 only to those less than 2k ... level 2 to those less than 4k etc. I learned this the hard way a bit so would save you that which I didn't know till I did more looking about.

Hope this helps some folks.

I've got a level 28 sith assassin (Marian), DPS-specced. I have classes in the mornings but I'm usually free in the afternoon and evening (pacific time) most days of the week. I'm totally down for whatever, so if I'm available you can probably count me in.

EPISODE 7: Everybody hates Dustin

Your hosts sit down to talk about game over refreshments. Well most of us, Dustin is dry yet again. News discussed today includes the Valentine’s Day patch, Drew Karpyshyn’s departure, Need Vs Greed changes, Bioware’s latest blunder, and this weeks Developer Q&A.

Up next the boys talk about sandbox features that the Devs could easily add to the game that would give players endless hours of entertainment. Lets face it, dailies get boring after the 30th time running through them. Dustin gets all Diva on us and up and leaves in the middle of the show. Next up Tristin and Angel get in another fight, this time it deals with darkside options and Empire Vs Republic. One of these is EZ mode according to Tristin, Angel disagrees. Our email box is simply overflowing with Dustin hate, justified? A shout out to Pinkside and then we remind our loyal listeners about this months contest and we close the show out with a song from the one and only Richie Branson.

Remember, if you'd like to enter the contest to win the 2 free months of game time, there are several ways to do so: You can follow us on twitter or facebook, you can leave a comment on iTunes (and then email us to let us know you've left a comment so we know who you are), you can reply on our blog, send us an email; any way that you'd like to contact us with love, hate or indifference (Though I'm not sure if tristin would count contact, here. :p ) gets you entered into the contest to win the free game subscription time. :)
