Guys, thank you both for responding. Plazma, I by no means meant that across the board. It was something that was brought up during a discussion, and I did see some light in it. However this could be one person who was burned and felt quite passionately about.
I have to play devils advocate on this one, when looked at from the outside it could be percieved as being a popularity contest. hence why i said that I hope it wasn't.
Zepari, I MISS PLAYING WITH YOU!!!! You were always one of the most fun players to do missions with, and your music collection was TOP NOTCH!

I tried SWTOR when it first came out, and then wasn't at all thrilled with the constant issues, not to mention the lousey customer service. If it changes, I may.. MAY come back. lol

I do hope that this hasn't "burned any bridges", as I would greatly appreciate to show the fleet that I could be a valuable member of the officer corps.

Maybe I said it wrong. I spent the last few weeks trying not to blow my top over the smallest things. If I seemed upset or defensive in my response, I didn't mean to and I'm sorry. I just wanted to tell you that becoming Fleet or Admiral isn't about nepotism.

Gabriel. I think you make a good point and have every reason to make yourself heard. However I do disagree with your comments on Admirals (Officers) and Fleet Captains.

I'm not an active member of Stonewall Fleet at the moment, I'm guild leader of Knights of Stonewall, but I fought and (I hope) earned that title. I was the personnel officer for Stonewall Fleet for 2 years and so that's why I would like to comment on the recruitment criteria. And there are none! If you are willing and able? Then you are a potential officer.

If anything, knowing or being friendly with a current officer causes more concern about promoting someone. Nepotism is not what we are about, and for those of us who have had to show our abilities over the past few years to gain the respect of our peers, it is a bit offensive to suggest, lol.

I have to admit that the information needed by members on how they can become officers is lacking, but we run regular recruitment threads, and rarely deny anyone the position. Anyone, like you, who expresses an interest in helping the community is normally snapped up as we need people like you. You just have to let us know personally so we can respond personally.

Basically what I'm trying to say is... that "officers" are far more restricted than members in what they can do. They have to constantly be aware of the needs of every other member of the community. If that is something you want to do, then by all means let a SWF officer know that!

If you fancy playing Star Wars: The Old Republic in the future... I could use someone like you too! (sorry Nick)

I was reminded last night that the coveted positions of fleet captain and admirals was one gained by popularity. Hopefully this isn't the case

Before I was a fleet capt I only talked to one person in the fleet, and he was not a fleet capt nor an admiral. I've been a member for 2 years, done 2 tours as a FC, I still wouldnt say I'm 'popular'. FC Voleron has been working on all the banks to get them organized. I did pulled the logs and saw that you have done a lot of work as well(thank you).

also tuvak and BrianBenzinger have been working on the banks

Otherwise the word doesn't have any positive meaning to me, any more.

Sensible response by ArenaNet. Should they add an in-game system to service marriages I'd imagine that they'd include same sex.

After all they'd have to let Asurans and Norn marry and that's an interesting partnership. Certainly a lot of Yellow Pages would be needed.

In case some of you want to get married in guild wars 2, a moderator posted this on the beta forum:

Just as in the original Guild Wars, players are free to engage in in-game marriages through role-play in Guild Wars 2, as long as their in-game behavior abides by our Rules of Conduct.
Whether the in-game marriages are between people of the opposite sex or the same sex (or any sex), it doesn’t matter. What matters is that all players abide by the Rules of Conduct.

Re: Steam

I love steam!

There are constantly ridiculous sales on games (I've gotten great games at up to 90% off). There are sales basically everyday on SOMETHING, "weekend deals" - including being able to play some games free for a weekend, which is a great way to try before you buy. They also cool week or more sales events around twice/year - the christmas time holidays in particular.

The social elements are cool too. It's fun to see what my friends have been playing, when they are online (also has a chat program). I even use it in place of something like ventrilo for coop playing with a friend in SF even for games that aren't on steam. (Though steam has a way to link in non-steam games for social stuff and ease of game launch).

When I got a new PC last year, it was really easy to reinstall games on the new PC and only the ones I wanted. You control which you download and install, etc. and don't have to worry about discs and stuff. All your games are available "forever".

Oh, and it's a very easy way to get game demos.

The only down side is I own a silly number of games because I bought them so cheap. :)

I think I may be a fanboy.

So I've been considering this over night, and I think perhaps I'm just more sensitive to these issues than most people are.

I was having an especially bad day, and I let my feelings get hurt and felt ganged up on, but I'm now realizing that was likely in my head to a great extent.

I know that we all mean to be open and accepting, and sometimes we just don't show it the same way.

I am sorry to anybody that I upset.

RE Matt: Yes, we have members who are straight, gay, bi, lesbian, queer, trans, male, female, and probably a few other variants.

We are all entitle to our bad days, and I'm sorry you had having one.

Nobody seemed to think I had a leg to stand on. Sigh.

That is simply not true. I sent you a tell at the time saying that I agreed that the particular comment that was made was not appropriate and that you were right to say so. Several other people also made supportive statements.

Completely aside from the issue of whether or not fleet chat was the appropriate place to have the discussion, your suggestion that EVERYBODY was against you is just not the case. On the question of whether the comment was appropriate, I thought you had a leg to stand on, and I said so to you at the time.

omg, i seriously hope this isn't just about a comment i made clearly in fun earlier this evening.

my comment "ugh, did someone say vaginal"
explanation: when i logged on there was this conversation ongoing about "breeders" and reproduction. someone referenced vaginal intercourse . . .

then i was called a hater . . .

i restated that i love women just not their lady parts . . .

more yelling at me . . .

i apologize . . .

more yelling . . .

i apologize again . . .

threats to quit the fleet . . .

really, AGAIN, if my comment offended I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE. But I never anticipated that comment would really set anyone off.

You are allowed to state a topic in fleet chat. If someone was uncomfortable they should have stated it or contact a FC or Office when they were on. We can not police that channel 24/7 and I like lady parts to as well as the lady so I don't see anything wrong with that personally. If gay member of the fleet are uncomfortable with conversation about lady parts they should remember that people, possibly our straight members, maybe uncomfortable with talking about boy parts. It works both ways and if people were kicking off about that then they should realize this.

I'm not condoning explicate content in chat, but there is a line, from the explicate to an opinion. It's a judgement call and with the amount of people in fleet chat it's hard to set a standard when we have many different personalities and backgrounds. Everyone needs to relax and not take these things as a personal attack. If it's outlandish contact one of us or simply withdraw yourself from the conversation. There is no need to get involved if your not happy with it. The same rule applies to spoilers from the featured episodes.

Dependent on the way the conversation was brought up one of us may have got involved, but we aren't a nanny state. So don't worry about that far worst has been said in chat.
