Grats Voleron for the excellent review!:cheer: It looks like a really cool mission and story. I think you covered all the bases really well and I look forward to giving it a try. :)

It's not really a game, is it? I mean, it's more like a presentation which requires the completion of uninteresting tasks to move on to the next slide. It had a lot of the same feel as a primitive 1970's science museum display in which there's a bit of text describing a concept, and then there's a card that reads "PRESS TO SEE ELECTRONS FLOW" and when you press it, a series of red LEDs embedded in the wall blink from one side to the other. One time.

I get what the author was going for, but this may not be the best medium for the message.

The crew is sent on its first mission by Starfleet in nearly seven years: to find a lost probe sent by Earth in the 21st century that has ended up in the Delta Quadrant.

Enjoy!

I kind of like the D'Kyr if only for its little healing pet.

Probably by forcing a name change, highlighting the inefficiency of making its name the only unique thing about your character.

Just played it today. Very good mission, but I wish there were alternate endings. I like choices, personally.

I kinda liked the LRSVs too--one of my ships, the USS Lilith's Brood, is a Discovery class LRSV. But I'm really loving my current ship, the USS Lathe of Heaven, which is a Polaris-class Reconn. And I'm loving it even more as I get a better understanding of which weapons and consoles work best with it. But now I'm starting to give the ARV a second glance, and in its retrofit it does look like a relatively good tank in comparison. So maybe I'll get that.

The ody is like flying a small moon, the sci recon is a far better ship. The Nebula I haven't used much, still I'm the biggest Intrepid booster here, it not big but fast, smart, and blow up damn near anything.

I would say the Nebula or Intrepid Class would be better for you.

Yeah, I've been wondering about some of the logistics behind everything. I've heard mention (probably rumor, can't remember where I've heard it) of having clusters of servers that connect with each other. I'd be surprised if they merged servers because how would you handle characters with the same names and legacy names?

Thanks for the update, kjmk. I am wondering if they mean by filling the servers to the brim they are planning on consolidating some of the low pop servers. As they have recently laid off a fairly large group of employees because of all the subscriber losses, I'm not sure how they expect to "raise the peak concurrent user cap above what it was at launch" when they couldn't fill the servers they started with and then opened the Oceanic servers which is what caused the population crashes to begin with. But I could be absolutely incorrect in my opinion on this which wouldn't surprise me in the least and I hope I am wrong because it will mean things are looking up! (except for the fact that server transfers aren't going to be free and they expect subscribers to pay even more money to fix a problem they didn't create) ;)

I think the following may answer your question. It's from the Community Q&A for May 25th.

Mallorik: What is your philosophy on cross server LFG tools? Are we getting a same server tool just to hold us over while you work on cross server tech or is this just a test to see if a same server tool will do the job?

Daniel: Although we’re certainly willing to entertain the idea of cross-server LFG tools if the need arises, it’s a last resort for us. We firmly believe for cooperative play it is important to have a community and social responsibility that you simply can’t have with players appearing and disappearing from your reality. Instead we are pushing hard on servers that are massive compared to the ones we launched with. Early tests show we’ll be able to raise the peak concurrent user cap above what it was at launch. Combining that with server transfers to enable players to move to these new servers and fill them to the brim, we should see some fantastic, vibrant communities develop where Group Finder will always be able to find someone for your content.

So should I save my Cryptic points for an Odyssey Science Cruiser, or a D'Kyr Science Vessel? I'm looking for my next purchase, mindful of how painfully often I get creamed by the Borg.

The OSC's hull rating is impressive, but its turn radius is less so. In comparison the D'Kyr is more nimble and has stronger shields. Both the OSC and D'Kyr have auxiliary vessels that provide repair and combat capabilities.

I'm leaning towards the D'Kyr, partially for aesthetics, but I'm willing to let an Odyssey fan talk me out of it. ;)

And yes, I agree that by and large what's considered masculine or feminine is socially constructed. There are, alas, commonalities that encourage the same dynamic--masculinity being favored over femininity.

Re: On Femmephobia

Femmephobia is an aspect of misogyny, yes. But it's also an aspect of things that aren't traditionally considered misogyny. As mentioned in the article above, femmephobia impacts all femininity, no matter how the femininity is embodied.

In Whipping Girl Julia Serano distinguishes between oppositional sexism--the notion that men are better than women--and traditional sexism--the notion that masculinity is better than femininity. Second-wave feminism, and to a degree some aspects of third-wafe feminism, tend to conflate misogyny with oppositional sexism more strongly than traditional sexism, which is why butches and trans men are often positioned as being radical, while femmes and trans women are often positioned as being reactionary. I'd rather see misogyny encompass both forms of sexism. Gradually that's becoming the case, but we still have holdovers.

As a queer trans woman, I'm painfully aware of how more masculine persons behave towards the feminine. It's all the more reason for me to possess a vocabulary to properly describe the experience, and the tools needed to respond in a more empowered way--and to share them with others who might have need of both.

When Obama was elected the conservatives crowed that racism is dead, they were wrong. Unfortunately the same is true of sexism, anything feminine is still considered by a large portion of the world to be weaker/lesser than anything masculine. Its going to be a long time before people as a whole truly accept wider possibilities and wider disconnects between sex/gender/gender bias. I firmly hope/believe that 100 years from now more str8 men will act more feminine and more gay men will act more masculine, and vice versa for the ladies. People will act as their inner soul dictates rather than what is expected/enforced for them to act.

Ah yes, I think the link should be working correctly now. It should take you to a page with a form like ltervlet described above.

Quote by ltervlet
When you click "Submit" you will get a "Wait" box that won't go away. Just click on the "refresh" icon along the bottom of the form and it will then post the information you added. To get rid of the wait box just click "close" that is down near "submit" and it will close the form for you.

Nick is hard at work on a new character manager that will hopefully fix the niggling bugs in our current system :)
