Re: The Giant Fleet Starbase thread

What kinda irks me thus far: Dev comments that say that optimum fleet size is around 50 players. And players will actually be encouraged to leave their large fleets, if they don't get stuff/ships they like. That seems to be counter-intuitive to what fleets should be all about. :/

Anyway, can we just agree to do projects that will get us T5 Novas? If they are ever available, that is? Pretty please? :O

theres one problem that i see with this is that if the sever that is tranfered to could be worse than the one we are on

Only if we transfer to one that others are leaving, and then it would only end up just as bad. I dont think that whatever happens we will be worse off.

Maybe we'll get lucky and ours will be a destination server. *crosses fingers*

Unfortunately, you have to rename your character on transfer if it's already taken on the server you're going to. I don't know about you guys, but I'm very attached to my names. I probably spent WAY too long picking them out coordinating them with the character and their personality. And everyone has to rename their Legacy name on transfer; the same name can be picked if it's not already taken.

Still crossing my fingers....

The Dev with the Dragoon Tattoo

This was posted on ArenaNet's blog a little while ago and wanted to share it with you guys if you hadn't seen it. :P

One of the Devs working on Guild Wars 2 decided to get a tattoo:

Here's what he had to say about it:

“ArenaNet is without a doubt the best video game company I have ever worked for. The people here are all very good at their jobs and they take making video games very seriously. I’m always amazed at the quality of work and the level of care my coworkers put into the game day in and day out. I’ve been a gameplay programmer from the beginning of Guild Wars 2 development, and this game represents a very significant portion of my life. I’ve worked on many features of the game, including the event system, boss monsters, and character creation, to name a few. I’m incredibly proud and passionate about Guild Wars 2, and it brings me extreme pleasure to see all the fans enjoying our Beta Weekend Events.

Needless to say, I’m a huge fan of the Guild Wars 2 art style. About three years ago, I decided that the Guild Wars 2 logo would make an awesome tattoo, but I was going to wait for the game to ship before I had it done. But with summer coming up, I decided I couldn’t wait any longer, since I want to be able to go outside and enjoy the beautiful Seattle weather with my new tattoo. I was debating where to place the tattoo, but when a friend of mine suggested my ribcage, a picture of it popped into my head and I knew she was right.

First, I had the outline done—a two-hour ordeal. I knew that getting it on my ribcage meant it was going to hurt pretty badly, but it was a lot less painful than I had anticipated. I even started laughing at one point because it was tickling—something my tattoo artist said was a first. The coloring took an additional six hours, split between two sessions. When it was finally over, I was very glad to be done.”

Pretty awesome tattoo. And the guy's pretty hot too. :P

Re: Character Transfer Info

I found some more details and clarification on the SWTOR website. It is as follows:

Many guild leaders have contacted us with their concerns about coordinating their guild members in preparation for the free character transfer service and I wanted to take some time to explain how this process will work.

In order to ensure an optimal playing experience for every server, we’ll be offering direct transfers from one origin server to a pre-selected destination server. This means that the destination server will already be selected for the origin server. As mentioned in our blog post, all server types and languages will be respected. You will not find your PvE characters transferred to a PvP server, or vice versa.

Therefore, all guild members on the origin server will be eligible to transfer to the same destination server, ensuring that the guild has the opportunity to stay together.

As we mentioned in our blog, the character transfer service will be made available gradually, starting with a small number of origin servers and adding more until all servers eligible for transfer are available in the service. We know everyone is excited for the opportunity to transfer their characters, but it is critical that we do this gradually to ensure both a smooth transfer as well as a great player experience on the destination servers.

Eligible servers will be listed as they become available for transfers at www.swtor.com/transfer, which will go live on Tuesday. This is to prevent potential server load issues.

Please note that we will not be dividing the population of an origin server onto multiple destination servers for this free character transfer process.

Additionally, players need not worry about rushing to transfer as free character transfers between selected servers will remain available for as long as it is needed to help balance server populations naturally. Rest assured that if we ever decide to stop this free character transfer service, players will be given plenty of advanced notice.

This makes me feel a lot better, for now. We have the opportunity to transfer to a higher population server if we decide to do so and that is a good thing. What's even better is it's actually going to be free to start with. (color me so surprised ;)) I was concerned about possibly missing some members but if it's going to be an ongoing process, we should all be able to transfer and reform the guild on another server (again, only if we decide to do so). Maybe we should start talking about this and come to a decision so we will be ready for when transfers go live! Please let me know what your opinions are about this. :)

Thanks for the link, kjmk. :) Unfortunately, guild transfers appear to be out of the question. They are requiring that you basically disband the guild and reform it again on the destination server. Which means the fee will have to be paid again and 5 people will have to log on at the same time (after transferring to the same server) and they aren't giving the available destination server information out in advance so something like this can be planned. And on top of that, the guild banks will have to be taken care of separately. While they will re-grant the banks, they will have to be emptied before transfer. Way to go Bioware. :( Get everyone excited and then throw the proverbial monkey wrench into the fray....

Maybe that's part of my problem--I fly my ships, usually, like raiders, hitting my targets up close with energy weapons and then flying off to fire torpedoes and to recharge shields. Also, I was using stock weapons instead of using more Borg-specific weapons.

Re: Session Time

I agree. It was always rather funny as I went through different forum sections to see list of online members constantly changing while the list of who was viewing a topic usually only had 1 or 2 people max. I'll just remember to refresh my log in before I start on an extended reply. :)

Re: Session Time

I think that's probably a good idea. Seeing 60 people online at all times is a quite a bit misleading :)

Re: Session Time

June 06 2012
I'm thinking about dropping the sessions time to something more reasonable now that I know it actually fixes those problems. Limiting it to an hour would keep sessions alive for much longer than the average browsing time. As it is right now, most Online indicators and guest counts are completely useless, as well, the read/unread indicators on forum posts is a little slow to update.
