New Stress Test: Sunday August 12th 11am - 12pm PT

August 12 2012
It's only an hour .. unless that was a typo on their part:

Happy weekend, everyone!

We will be conducting a stress test TOMORROW Sunday, August 12 from 11:00 AM PACIFIC Time to 12:00 Noon PACIFIC Time.

REMEMBER: We will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed.

Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch.

By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game!

--
Please note:
* The stress test is open to anyone who has pre-purchased Guild Wars 2.
* Characters will not be wiped from the previous Stress Test

Re: Poll: What Class will your Main be?

August 12 2012
I was dead set on being a thief before the beta weekends but when I started playing I felt useless unless I was standing in back and shooting my pistols. I tried some other classes and liked Elementalist and Mesmer so I may end up playing one of those as my main.

At least I've decided on a race. For me there are no other races, just Asura.

Not sure if you watch their podcast but they will very much be in charge of the WvW on whatever server they go... no doubt.. has both its positives and negatives..

Another reason it might not be bad to sit tight as they plan on moving from CD on release.. it would be kind of funny if we changed servers and went to the same one they move to.. lol

I've requested to be added to their mailing list so I can see the announcement when they decide.. my hope is for Eternal Grove to come back.. it just seemed like home to me.. but I did pick Sylvari for my main.. hehe

I will echo what she said about guild drama though. Guild Wars 2 is a game where a server is the "team" and there is no reason why one guild should be in direct competition with each other. As long as the server is doing well, and everyone is having fun, that's all that matters.

If this could or will become a reality....I would be the happiest gamer alive. :cheer: I'm so beat-up and tired of ego-drama!

Re: Crystal Desert full?

Because I'm on my iPad and don't want to retype this is a repost. I would like to add that even at full and long into the BW it only took a few minutes of trying to get in a server. ANet will be adjusting as release unfolds. Release days are always like this.

I dunno I don't see CD as obviously over populated..

There are few alliances or guilds that can truly have a numbers impact on a server. Ascension and Team Legacy because of their huge followings from the Tales of Tyria podcast. Are one of these exceptions. Not to mention the hardcore PvP/WvW folks they attract.

They have been on CD throughout Beta, I think this is a big reason why CD has the following it does. Because of so many people following them around they plan on moving, this alone is going to dramatically change the server.

I also don't see it as over populated because ANet has been fudging the numbers all along to control population. What we see the moment of release is not what we'll see 30 days from now. I just don't want a permanent solution to a very temporary problem.

Since we're talking about it, are we going rogue and don't plan to joining the GLBT community? That of course is another part of the equation.

Anyway I don't want to give the impression I'm tied to CD, I just don't want to be on a dead server because I know low pop today means dead within a year..

Re: Crystal Desert full?

August 11 2012
One of the LGBT guilds, Gayme 0n, originally selected Darkhaven as the official LGBT guild (after Eternal Grove was removed) and when everyone started kicking off about that, I was in discussion with the the leader of Gayme 0n and Rough Trade.

Rafeal is the leader of Rough Trade and he was almost in a state of panic trying to organise a server choice that would keep everyone happy. Hang on let me quote the email he sent me during our conversations.

What do you guys think about Crystal Desert as the OFFICIAL LGBT Server period? We need a quick response to get this message out. If you guys jump on board all I have to do is get Gayme On, as well?

He asks me and I ok'd it, this is before he had discussed this with the leader of the WvW centric guild Gayme 0n. We later decided to wait for Eternal Grove and use Crystal Desert as a back up server (not exactly the way to go if their main desire all along as to force us onto a WvW server).

When Crystal Desert was selected it was before it became a "WvW world" (though I refuse to accept that definition) and people were happy with the choice (for the most part, we all miss Eternal Grove).

Remember this was all done on the eve of a BWE event and we had to try and get everybody in the right place. It's looking more and more likely that despite it's problems Crystal Desert will be the official GBLT server, with or without us.

If we can't accept that then the only choice we have is to break away from them and go it alone. Which I'm open to discuss, although I think it wouldn't be in our interests in the long run. GBLT servers have worked well in other games, and a game which requires co-operation as much as Guild Wars 2 does, it can only be a good thing to have an extended GBLT community.

I'm going to make a thread later to discuss the "back up" server idea and hopefully come to some sort of consensus about what to do with he "full server" problem (for the short term).

Re: Poll: Hard & Fast or Nice-n-Slow?

August 11 2012
I agree with Blue - I voted slow and have no intent to rush to 80 - but by the nature of the game, levels will fly by faster than you know it. You get xp for almost everything you do. Unless you spend hours and hours talking to all the booksellers and carni folk in Divinity's reach - you're going to be doing something that moves you along. It's one of the many great things about GW2.

Being totally honest, I think it's looking more and more likely that we will be sticking with Crystal Desert when the game launches but we do have to wait for the official server list.

I mean they said that the current Stress Test server is close to the launch list but adding just "Eternal Grove" back to that list would still make that statement correct. I hate the way companies keep people in the dark and would just rather they made a decision early so we can plan accordingly.

I dunno, apparently even if I am playing slowly XD I tend to be moving pretty fast, habit I guess. Since I gather, craft, explore repeat events XD. I was 35 and hadn't even finished all the starting areas and only did a couple 15-25 areas during bwe 3 XD with 100 and 75 in two tradeskills before i finaly ran out of materials XD

Crystal Desert was selected as the server during BWE3 and remains it due to the stress test not being wiped yet, but yes as stated there will be a wipe.

I have no clue atm if we will be choosing a new home server come launch however, if we do there will be a post here on the forums about it.

Re: Mike Ferguson speaks on Server Lists

August 11 2012
Remember, this is still suppose to be a group effort, not just Stonewall itself, obviously if over population is an issue which is an obvious issue with Crystal Desert. I am sure it will pop up during the talks on server selection, but first we need the final official list

WvW we don't have to assume about WvW, because they more then likely will be very active communties for it (aside from the 3 low servers), it is a really popular draw to the game for the people who enjoy world pvp and the pvpve environment while having a regular pve side to level and play normally.

We are gonna run into jerks and badmouthers no matter where we go, that kind of gamer has been bred into the MMOG community heavily now thanks to a certain game.

Re: Server Communities

August 11 2012
She is actually very clever to say that the DSC isn't an alliance. It's simply a system of communication and as such there isn't a "leading" guild which would by default take command of the alliance.

I don't fully understand how she intends to use it though because all of the guild leaders will be representing their guilds and as such wouldn't see the chat in the DSC. She used an example of being in a guild of 20 members and needing 50 to take down the shatterer (BIG DRAGON), she implies that she would contact the leaders of the other guilds to request assistance.

Great! But is she really going to private message each and every guild leader? What if the guild leader isn't online right now? Is the membership for that entire guild not invited? She is going to private message the guild leaders who are online and are of the biggest guilds (to get the best return) and the small guilds will be left in the wilderness.

She could get the same information by making a list in notepad of the guild leaders and their guild names (well except she wouldn't know if they were online, but as I said a guild leader isn't the only important member of a guild. In fact every single member is just as important).

We need a real alliance system, one which comes with an Alliance chat so that all senior members of every guild can communicate. This is the only way cross-guild communication has any realistic way of working (with any consistency). ArenaNet have confirmed an alliance system will be arriving in the game at some point.

I will echo what she said about guild drama though. Guild Wars 2 is a game where a server is the "team" and there is no reason why one guild should be in direct competition with each other. As long as the server is doing well, and everyone is having fun, that's all that matters.

Well we can look at the reddit guild/server list (im not sure where it is, but its somewhere ;P) and do some research on the guilds inhibiting the "3/4" servers that we are interested in?

My gut feeling is not to be at the "very" top.....just damn close to it. And that's all it is is a gut feeling. I will do my best to get on whatever server is selected for us :)

gotta agree with this... I think the sweet spot is around the 3/4 highest pop.. we want an active WvW community.. playing RvR and DAoC for a number of years trust me you do not want a dead WvW server.. these high pops are a very temporary issue.. even the highest pop now will be moderate a year from now..

anyway we don't even know the list yet..

Don't worry! All characters and stuff get erased before launch, so people will choose their server and stuff again at launch!(headstart)
