Im not certain to understand that "influence" is each character earn/spend influence for what they want or is it like shared with the whole guild?

When you as an individual do certain things, the guild that you're in gets Influence. Then, that influence can be spent on buffs that benefits the entire guild.

We hope that this is pretty much a given.

Should each tree be filled incrementally, round robin style? Should we vote? Or let the leadership decide what is best?

There are a few ways that we could handle it. I would vote against filling incrementally. Looking at the wiki on Influence, some of the latter levels take a huge amount of Influence and time. Doing incremental would have us working on things that we might not necessarily want right away.

Voting through the site tends to get to be a bit of a monster. First, there are many that don't look through the forums as frequently as others. Also, if you have a majority of one group also voting for certain benefits, that would be unfair to others (those more interested in WvW buffs versus those wanting more Economy buffs, for example).

To me the fair thing would be a mix of round robin mixed with letting the leadership decide. If there are a lot of people wanting WvW buffs, then we can certainly spend into that tree. But, then choices in the other trees should be made to keep things fair. Also, there are specific things that most of us would want right away (guild emblem, vault, etc) We will probably have to play the expenditure of Influence by ear. But, I think discussing it here in the forums is a good basis to get started.

Honestly, I'm willing to leave it up to whoever wants to decide as long as there's no fighting and disagreements are settled respectfully. I'll be happy if it benefits me, but I'll also be happy if others are having a good time with their benefits/buffs/etc.

We now so far that our first priority will be to purchase Politics I followed by the guild emblem creator. (This will be quick and we need the emblem creator for the contest).

We have also discussed that purchasing the Guild Workshop after Architecture I would be the best idea for productivity.

Following Economy I and Art of War I, we have not discussed specifics but have talked about possibly aiming For Guild Armorer and Guilds Weapon contract in Politics.

After we have the emblem creator and the workshop, though, it is not completely decided in what direction we will head.

Kerstov and I discussed always having the 5% influence for 24 hours buff in one of our two build queues.

Personally, I believe that Politics, Economy, and Architecture should come before we start building in Art of War too much, but that is just my opinion. I would imagine the focus of the guild the first few days would be PvE, but who knows? I'm sure if there is interest in one particular upgrade or category, then the leaders will focus on that for sure :)

Re: Guild Emblem Impromptu Design contest (kind of)!

Yeah. I say we wait til release and have everyone that wants to submit an emblem, submit ONE entry, with their explanation and description. Have the cutoff be like next Wednesday or something. Then have a couple rounds of tiered voting. Then we,ll have one ready by next weekend. About the time everyone is deep into the game.

As far as I am concerned most of the creators of this impromptu contest probably will abandon their original emblem when they look at the new creator with a huge multitude of options :)

Heres one I made with the online guild emblem thing:

Description:

"It represent the gay part of the guild (like you probably guessed). I looked at the emblems and options: I dont really think (except the fist+arrow) that any match the whole "GLBT" part. At least this emblem represent 1/4 of the guild, its better than 0/4 heh..

Also I think this emblem clearly show the meaning of it even to someone who never heard of the guild but see this emblem.

and finally: I find that this emblem add a bit of humor."

My vote go for this first and second: Nicc arrow+heart I quoted upper on this page.

"The Queen, of Fire-Island"

August 22 2012
BEFORE: there was a Priscilla Queen of the Desert or a RuPaul's Drag Race...there was "The Queen of Fire-Island."

(Just viewing this photo by itself, one might say, "what a mess he is," and you would be ohhhh so wrong for feeling or thinking this way.")

Photo: 1985

I was 20 years old at the time and this was my first time to Province Town / Cap-Cod. My friend and I visited a prominent local gay-bar there. It wasn't long before I noticed, "The Queen." He was alone on the ocean-side balcony of this bar...no one could ignore him...but there was no one talking to him either and he was daintily sipping his drink alone for quite some time.

I told my friend, "I'm going to go say hi to him." My friend said, "really?" I didn't answer and walked nervously toward The Queen and he smiled when he realized I was bee-lining his way. His smile was reassuring and I relaxed immediately. I introduced myself and instead of taking my out-stretched hand, he gathered me in a bear-hug and kissed my cheek. I could feel all eyes upon us but for some reason - I didn't care. For what seemed like a wonderful lifetime of conversation (which was probably more like an hour and a half) we tapped each others souls. He, seeing my youth and guessing my painful history growing up as a gay child and young man, put words to his soul and then bestowed them upon my heart.

From this moment on in my life I have never let anyone hurt me in my heart the way I had before about my lifestyle...The Queen took care of all that for me. I, guessing nothing about The Queen other than he was extremely comfortable in his own skin (and attire!) longed for him to tell me all about his life and why or how could he dress comfortably like he was in 1985! Then he told me all about his upbringing and his college years and then he got to; the Stonewall Riots...

(The Stonewall Riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City.

The Queen had been there and was a part of all that horror that came before us...which was the turning point for all gays in American history. I was four years old at the time of these riots.

I took in every precious word he was willing to share with me, in some places my heart broke for the tragedy of it all and at other times...I felt an overwhelming sense of pride for our forefathers and lesbians who took on and were a part of Stonewall.

I left Cape-Cod the next day....not the uneducated young-man...as I had arrived...but a man.

A nostalgic moment...and a heartfelt thank you to Stonewall Vanguard...for a name that is as historically-linked... as it is strong.

To "The Queen," you mostly probably are in heaven by now...but thank you for what you gave me in experience, strength and compassion...God bless you and hold you in his arms....as you once held me.

Also: posted as a tribute and memorial in my albums.

Thanks for sharing these tips! I was always a ::gasp:: Up, Down, Left Right arrow key and mouse icon clicker kinda person. (game I played in the past you could get away with that easily and do well). Seems in GW2 I'll greatly need these key binds for fast reaction time... now to train my muscle memory... that's going to be an adventure!

Buy your harvesting tools first thing and collect every node you see. Even if crafting is not your thing you can always store or sell them. Remember we will also have a guild bank for storage and sharing :)

Don't be afraid to explore.

You can send your gathered crafting mats from your inventory to your bank while you're out and about.... all at once!

As soon as you can, get gathering tools.

Re-bind your dodge to another key and disable the default "double tap a direction to dodge" setting (this is a just a personal preference of mine).

All armor crafting professions (armorsmith, leatherworker, and tailor) can create inventory bags. It's not just for leatherworkers ;)

Also make sure to group together as much as possible! The game rewards you more for being in groups, in addition you get influence for finishing events with a guild member.
