I mean, I'm not leadership or a moderator but I read the general forums, the Vanguard forums, and the Fleet forums since I also play STO. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't venture into the general forums since, y'know, they're general

We technically have the "General Any Topic" forum for off topic posts. Currently though, the description makes it seem like it's just for the STO and SWTOR branches of the guild, but that's probably more to do with the descriptions not having been updated.

Perhaps updating those descriptions would cause the Stonewall Vanguard people to use those forums more?

Thank you. :) That's precisely why I've requested an Off-Topic Column of our own in our own section very specially labeled. It's for them and those who play that game...and who from here is going to venture into that area except moderators and leadership? Not I.

I've posted in the General and Other Gaming forums. I did have to 'double check' the description to make sure I was posting in the right area :)

Off-Topic Column...?

August 23 2012
Hey Halish, and good morning to ya.

Do you think it a possibility in the very near future you could create and (Off-Topic) column in 'Stonewall Vanguard." NOT and off-topic thread that will get buried over time...but to actually have it's on column.

The reason behind my request is simple; all three of the columns available concern this website or are gaming oriented, that in itself is cool but limiting. I am somewhat of a social-butterfly in that I would like to get to know people better, their likes and dislikes, hobbies, music...places they have vacationed to or even their favorite snack, whatever.

I posted a thread (which had nothing to do with gaming) in Divinity's Tavern that seems to have been view by over a dozen people and so far no one has commented on it...(I'm thinking) because I had no other place to put it and it very awkwardly landed and is bordered right between two "very important" posts concerning....what.....guild matters. The post I submitted would have realistically been more appropriate placed in an Off-Topic. Couldn't find one

I have read your person profile like 5 times now and it tells me nothing more about "you" today than it did a month ago. I have a lot of curiosity just about you alone (socially-related) of course but can't see the benefit of getting to know you better through PM's, when others might enjoy that same information.

Sadly, I find myself leaving the forums frequently now (because of never ending lists of guild matters or of GW2 knowledge overload :pinch: ) to go crochet or some such nonsense like that...when I would prefer to browse a Column and read different threads that is going to allow me to get to know someone beyond "this game." I know there are hard-core gamers here who enjoy, "nothing but gaming dialog," I'm just not completely game oriented...excited yes...married to it....NO!

Thanks tons, and have a great day. :)

Re: GW2 Headstart Launch Time maybe 3 hours earlier!

August 23 2012
Have Vent (and have already set it up for Stonewall), but no working headset.... well, I can hear, but the mic likes to cut out and/or not work at all. Will have to rectify that at some point soon.

It'll be midnight here, if they do start it 3 hours early... after a 10 hour workday (about 12 with the drive), I'll have to nap if I can (and patch the game while I nap), then start hitting the enter key. I wish the time were a bit more definite so we could plan better, but then this type of announcement (public, but not too public) might make it easier to login as those who haven't heard about it will try later on at the 'official' time.

I don't really have any opinion on how to best use our influence, so I'm in favor of leaving it in the hands of the guild's leadership.

According to the wiki on Influence:
Participation sources
The primary source of influence is through participation in PvE or PvP:

10 for each member who is online during an Attendance Check.

These 10 points or credits will be (I think) difficult to get in that there are so many varying time zones. I don't think there has been mention yet of raiding times to catch the vast majority...or is there such a post and I missed it?

I believe (unless there is options I hadn't noticed) that the guild promoter is essentially a "donate" tool. You "buy" things from him (like drinks for everybody) and in return your guild gains influence. So you're technically spending your in-game currency to donate influence to the guild.

Certainly at the low levels I achieved during the BWE the cost didn't seem to be worth the small amount of influence given and, even if it takes longer, I would rather people spent their hard earned gold on stuff for their character and we'll earn the influence during events.

^ I don't know, but probably not. Choreography is notoriously hard to copyright. And simple "social moves" like "the Carlton" are uncopyrightable. Bhangra is an ancient folk dance, popping is its own genre... the only question would be the LMFAO one.

during BWE3, in one of the spam invite guilds, i was able to use the stack the various boosts for pvp and pve, if they changed that during the stress tests I have no clue.

As far as influence decisions...I'm inclined to slide right up along side those who would rather it be a leadership choice than a poll and lengthy posts about it.

Someone also said you get more influence by doing things with guildmates (for example finishing DE's together). Though I haven't been able to confirm if this is true, if you need to be in a party with them etc. etc.

According to the wiki on Influence:

Participation sources
The primary source of influence is through participation in PvE or PvP:

2 for individual guild members completing an event or part of a personal storyline. (The per-player influence gained increases substantially with each new participating guild member.)
5 for individual guild members getting a victory in a pvp match.
10 for each accepted guild invitation.
10 for each member who is online during an Attendance Check.
Non-participation sources
10 can be purchased from a Guild Promoter for 2 (in various increments).

As long as you (any character on your account) are representing a guild - the guild earns the influence.

Make sure you click the Represent button in the guild panel whenever you create a new character and you'll be set.

Im not certain to understand that "influence" is each character earn/spend influence for what they want or is it like shared with the whole guild?

When you as an individual do certain things, the guild that you're in gets Influence. Then, that influence can be spent on buffs that benefits the entire guild.

For more info
Is it shared with the whole guild or the influence you earn is earned just for you? (and possibly your account i guess)

Re: Spending Guild Influence

Stitch summed it up pretty much - by the end of headstart we should be setup with a the base infrastructure to get multiple boosts and upgrades pretty quickly.

One thing I wasn't able to test in beta is if the boosts stack. So can we build multiple pvp boosts and have them ready - or do we have to use it before building another, etc.

Once the infrastructure is in place we will definitely have to figure out the best way to spend boosts and upgrades timely and when the guild members can maximize the use.

If the game allows us to use multiple boosts (pvp + a pve) it'll make the whole thing alot easier!
