Re: Not a rage quit. A realization.

I did want to make 1 more point. I was fine with the game as it was before the patch with the loot caps and nerfs. Making dungeons (which is one of my favorite parts of any mmo) cost money rather than make money seemed silly. I mean make em harder sure, but if you run a dungeon even for the 1st time (did lvl 80 dungeon for the first time) my reward was 1 silver. Less then 1 repair. Seemed like a knee jerk over reaction on thier part. Then I read the post I linked and realize they will probly leave it as is. Shouldnt cost me in game money to run your content. Just saying ^.^

I sit directly on the opposite side of the fence. I have played and quit too many MMO's because I don't want to play content just because I get rewarded for doing so. Fun is the only reason I play games in general and it's the only reason I play MMOs.

Rewards are nice but they are an un-needed addition to any game that is actually fun to play. Many single player games survive without the need for constant rewards and Guild Wars 2 will triumph without them.

While I wish you well in finding a new game, I would echo the first point that you made:
guildwars 2 is non sub based I can come back anytime

Come back whenever you want, even if it's just for a five minute play session. You never know perhaps you'll adapt to the game before any new game interests you.

Re: 80...not what I expected {spoiler alert}

September 19 2012
lol crafted my heart out. crafting system is very good in this game. The true killer blow for me was not even the speed dungeon/difficulty thing. It was the world wide "omg if you do something to much you stop getting anything for it"
Basically while you are lvlin you are always moving. New zones and sites and storys. At 80 (if you made sure to wander the world,) there is only farming, socializing and helping others. With recient patches farming is of course much harder and you have to move around a lot and is annoying.(making it a bigger time sink) Social is still fun. As for helping... if its a dungeon, why bother. It will more than likely cost you money in deaths to assist your friends through there because the reward overall is nerfed. Not just repeated runs. Even your first run.
It was a quick update. I'll check in from time to time to see what they do.

[strike]Well, THAT sounds interesting. Please elaborate! Do you have a link to the post?[/strike](saw the link to the post in your other thread, thanks!)

It'll probably be a while before I get to 80. And I am very into alts, and love dressup lol (in-game anyway), so that kinda sounds cool to me. Also tons to explore in this world which I'm curious to do.

Also, have you been crafting? If so, did you find it to be worth doing?

and, um... grats on hitting 80 (I guess ;)

Not a rage quit. A realization.

September 19 2012
Well for starters, as guildwars 2 is non sub based I can come back anytime. Alas after reading a well written post and some great counter arguments, I have decided to hang my hat for now. More content will come and things with change. I just realize that as gw2 is not reward centric. I will not feel properly rewarded. I am one of those people that fun for me is tackling that amazing dungeon and getting something useful out of it as a reward. I understand that, though there are rewards,(which have been reciently nerfed) that was not the goal of the game.

Here is the post. Good read and good points on both sides of the fence. https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/GW2-is-Fun-Centric-not-Reward-Centric

Personally since 80 is about getting your new awesome skin and not about the stats (as they are all the same) Whoever has more money is a non issue. All it means is they can by more cosmetic items then you can. It does not break the game imo. Mass farming and selling items is also a non issue. You can either farm your own (even if a botter is there all you have to do is aoe the mobs n you get drops to) or buy them. Which with the flooded market from all the servers and farmers is actually quite easy. One persons playstyle you may not like, but if it does not effect you, why do you care?
So in closing. The games core philosophy does not speak to my playstyle and what I find fun. I like rewards, money, loot and so on. So as the original poster said. I should go find another game, because this one is not for me. There is a lot more to it and more points I could argue, but I think I have said enough in the last few days. *hugs to all* ^.^ Lost aka Grim

I don't understand the need to meet "physically" at a particular location in the game to conduct a business meeting. It could be done in chat--just make a separate channel to keep from clogging the main chat channel--and, in fact, I think you would need to do this anyway even if meeting at Drozana or suchlike. I mean, I get that meeting "physically" is fun and can help to build camaraderie. Beyond that, it's all window dressing.

Thanks for sharing the information buddy. After reading this...my hope level for some things concerning GW2, dungeons, end game content etc., went a little flat. But nice to know as apposed to not knowing. Well I wish I could say something that might better this but I cant think of anything except...

Maybe you could copy this to A-net forums and see if others are saying the same thing...this may go a long way to having A-Net rethink some stuff and possibly fix it to make it better.

So, it looks like we may have had a misunderstanding here. No hard feelings on my end. :) Now, back to more Pew-Pew-Pewing.)

I haven't counted, but in the General Topic thread there are perhaps dozens upon dozens of "Topics" and "none" of them ended with the "instruction" you gave at the end of this political invitation:

Quote by BaronVonHeller
While the very nature of politics may lead to some heated conversations, NO personal attacks of any kind will be tolerated.

If you were so sure that people could maturely "multitask" as you nicely put it...then why say that at all at the end of your invitation....unless you understood the risk involved...just like I did.

And no, there are no hard feelings....have a great day! :)

A thread on politics ends p in an objest lesson on diplomacy...who knew.
Also have been following your run up to presidential elections on and off.
As an outsider I can say two things...

1: you have a very very odd system that seems to change the way you vote each time, That comes across as a bit suspect given it often ends up restricting voting. Not what you expect from a country that hails itself as the saviour of democracy and land of the free.

2: you have a candidate ( ill just call him Mittens) who has a fantastic way of shooting himself in the foot. Even his own party is pissed at how many people he seems to piss off. Great Britain, rape victims, the LGBT community, the millitary and now 54% of the population of the country he wants to run. If i wasnt for the fact people are taking him seriously id be laughing.

Now all the above is opinion remember so dont take anything as a personal attack, hell ic rather give a back rub than pistols at dawn.

Speaking as a newby, I like the idea of the weekly meetings - be it on the starbase or Drozana. :)

Meetings on Drozana would probably help to promote the fleet, but I agree that usage of the fleet starbase is also a good idea. Maybe we could do both.

80...not what I expected {spoiler alert}

September 19 2012
So I just want to say. first day of 80 not so bad. Then I learned a few lessons today after this new patch. It may be fixed later but for now it really puts a sour taste in my mouth. When I hit 80 I was full of wonder. Happy I could make my epic gear and do the 80 dungeon. I felt that my place was getting my gear together and then helping others with the, somewhat at times very unforgivable dungeons. Then I learned today that 80 progression is based on skins. Not striving for that new uber weap you build. Just skins for it and your clothes. I'm not into playing dress up. That is not progression. Not only is your progression based on skins its also very time consuming to get said skins. Nodes are few and far between and money is still a chore to get. So like in most games you turn to other sources of income or fun. Such as dungeons. New patch, storymode dungeons if you have done them before are a waste of time. You will die and spend more silver in repairs then you actually get. No joke 1 80 and 3 40-50 range people ran cm with me today. Not only is it crazy hard now(makes ac look like cakewalk) but I got 1 silver and 8k xp for my time. So run explore you say. I say naw....your reward for that, besides being even harder and more costly, tokens. yay tokens for more skins..... So running your friends through a dungeon now costs you money... well thats just nice. Even better was the "ending" of the lvl 80 dungeon. all that lead up to your epic battle... spoiler. Its you mashing the "2" key. yup 5 mins of nothing but 2 over n over. I have never had so much fun lvling in a vid game. Story and wonder all around. I have never been so disappointed by "end game" Its an excuse to play barbie dress up. "Look at me I wasted 3 days of my life for this new dress." "Is it any better than what im wearing?" "No" "So those 3 days could have been spent with your friends running dungeons and helping?""I would do that but im broke from my new dress and my repair fees." yea... thats about how I feel right now. /rantover

Um, ok, not really sure how to take that post. If you are not interested in political discussions, don't get involved. There was really no need to make a post instructing us how to properly conduct ourselves though.

Also, let me clarify: I wasn't really intending this to be a political THREAD, just an announcement for the political chat that was created. :)

1. Um, ok, not really sure how to take that post. No offense intended...and I hope no offense taken. :)

2. If you are not interested in political discussions, don't get involved. I feel ever so slightly put-off by this comment though. This is my home now and it will be for many years to come, hopefully. Though I'm not an officer or anything but a member...if I feel a general concern about a topic that was started I will make a comment about my concerns...even if I am not going to participate in the overall topic. That seems fair and is a general right of all members to be able to voice concerns about something.

3. There was really no need to make a post instructing us how to properly conduct ourselves though. Friend, that wasn't an instruction on conduct...it was a mild concern that people could lose themselves in politics and diminish their overall gaming experience, that was all. :)

1. Thank you for clarifying. :)

2. I certainly didn't mean to imply that you weren't welcome to join in or have an opinion. You are just as much a valued member of this fleet as anybody else is. You just stated that you weren't interested in the topic and wouldn't participate, and then went on to share your concerns about how this topic would potentially hurt people's gaming experience.

3.I took that as more than a little condescending, since I for one can do 2 things at once, lol. It also seemed that you were intending to try and quash the topic because of your concerns. I think most of us discussing these issues are mature enough to decide if it is interfering with our gameplay or not.

Personally, as much as I LOVE Star Trek Online, whether or not my Husband and I, along with all other LGBT's continue to gain equality or lose it due to changing political climates, is FAR more important.

So, it looks like we may have had a misunderstanding here. No hard feelings on my end. :) Now, back to more Pew-Pew-Pewing.)

I'm very much a believer in the thought that "If you don't do politics, you don't do much else". Because I think it has an impact on everything we do, even if it's something as small as paying to ride the bus or as large an issue as Gay Marriage.

That being said, don't you think that a in-game chat room is the wrong forum for discussing topics that require long debates and thought-out view points.

I think you may be better suited to create a group on this website to discuss politics. If you go to the groups section /network/groups you should be able to create a group that will allow you to have in-depth discussions, with separate topics, away from peoples "play time" and people who aren't interested don't have to join.

I think you should specify exactly that you're trying to do with this, as well. I'm British and we have politics but we don't have a crucial election coming up (well not for a few years), are you only interested in discussing politics in the US of A?

Halish

Points well taken.

My experience has been that forum threads tend to get a little lengthy and often times over-heated. I feel that having a real-time environment like chat might be better suited to my purpose for those who are politically inclined. For example things like "Did you just see what Obama or Romney Said"(or Cameron, for you Brits, lol)

I am not really looking to create an in-depth analysis of the various political institutions of the world. There are many other places I can go for that.

I simply noticed that there were others in the chat that seem to be like minded.

While I am American and the current Presidential elections are at the forefront of my interests, I DO enjoy discussing international politics as well.
