Re: Ship Names

December 15 2012
Ah, ship names. It's one of the best parts of this game!

For me, it depends on the character. For my main toon, Oren-De, I have a story built up around him and his crew. This has meant that the ship is always called 'Pandora' and that I try to keep the crew in a Phoenix-class escort as much as possible.

For my other toons, I tend to use ship names that fit with the career. For my Science, all ship names were derived from famous scientists, increasing in fame and stature as the ships got bigger. )However, I went through a stint where I remodeled him to fit the Doctor, at which point the ship became the USS Idris. :P)

For my budding Engineering captain, same thing. Famous engineers, though since there aren't that many famous engineers in real life, I tend to use Trek engineers.

Unfortunately, I won't be there tonight as I'm going to a party. Looking forward to RPing again, though!

As for hot mess names, my Orion slave boy on tribble rolls around in an Orion Marauder Patrol Cruiser named the Slovenly Concubine. ;)

LMAO! That's at least funny...

Re: Ship Names

I used to name every single ship i had during the levelling process but when i eventually hit VA i was moving ships so much and had so many on the go. I think when i finally settle on a "my" ship i will name it. Historically i have always liked Reverence for a ship (i think it sounds nice, though in my head it doesnt sound like a typical starfleet name). So if you see my flying a ship with that name it means i really like it :D

No problem! I actually figured that this episode was going to be a 'special' of sorts since it's during the Winter Whirl. Regardless, I plan on participating.

AND HOW DARE YOU BE OUT OF TOWN DURING THE HOLIDAYS!? :P

Looking forward to tomorrow's event!

A quick note about tomorrow's winter RP event...

December 15 2012
Since last week ended on a cliffhanger, and I don't want to shove any newbies in halfway through an episode, we're actually doing a little bit of a time warp for the RP event we're tying to the winter whirl tomorrow. I've come up with a one-off that will put a minor flourish on a loose end from a previous story. It doesn't really matter where we put it in the timeline, but let's say right after the current episode, if it comes up.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town Saturday the 22nd. That means we won't get to finish up our current episode until the 29th.

Sorry, everybody. :S

I always thought it strange that the Enterprise was really the only proven example of this seen, despite the fairly consistent reuse of historical names by Starfleet (almost every original Connie saw life later on in newer classes; no letters though).

I'm not 100% but I think it's because the Federation flagship always has to be named enterprise so they basically renew the Naval Commission Contract (NCC) number each time a new one has to be built and they only do that with the fleet's flagship.

Nothing worse than seeing someone flying around in a ship with a hot mess name. It ruins the entire effect of the ship, and the person flying it.

I feel worst when they're largely serious names, just butchered.

I can deal with, or more likely politely ignore silly names.

But I swear I've encountered, and you know you have as well, the Rengade, the Braverry, and so forth. I like imagining they're inside jokes. That's my happy place.

Are you sure you have the times converted right? The times are in Eastern Time which is -5 and from what I see, Germany is +1 so there should only be a 6 hour difference. That's make it 7PM - 3AM (6PM - 2AM for our British players).

Re: Getting to know you.

Greetings!

I'm Justin, and I'm 35 years old. I started my love of Star Trek with TNG and have enjoyed all of the series since. I have recently come back to STO from a long hiatus and am happy to see all the additions and improvements.

I'm an IT & Compliance Manager for a non-profit organization in the United States. However, my degree is in music composition with a minor in French. I'm currently working on a plan to attend DigiPen, a school in the Seattle area where I can get a degree in video game sound design.

Also, Chemkarate's avatar makes me quiver in all my quivery places.

The list of events looks really amazing.

But I just realized that the schedule is not Europe-friendly at all. :/ The events on Saturday run from 10pm - 6am local time, for example.

Hope you can take the good old world into account when you schedule future events. :)

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for all the work and love you put into this project! You should be very proud of this comprehensive and entertaining fleet magazine! :)

I'd also thank you (and especially Voleron) for the kind review of "Shadows of the Past". I was delighted that the mission was considered for inclusion in this edition of the Stonewall Times. And I had a blast answering all the insightful interview question.
