Re: Ugandan trans woman writes to Parliament

Wow, the bravery of some people just amazes me. I for one could not be anywhere near as brave as this woman who although she goes by an alias, still gave enough information about herself to enable someone that wanted to identify her to be able to do so. I wish her well and truly hope she hasn't endangered herself with her eloquent writing. I know the people behind this legislation will eventually pay for what they are doing but how many people will suffer before that comes to pass? :(

Thank you so much for sharing, kiriamaya! :cheer:

What an amazing woman. Her eloquence does herself justice.

I truly hope that "Kill the Gays" bill isn't passed. It's such a horrendous bill and the part that Americans have played in its creation is horrible. I sign all those online petitions and what not, but who knows how little that's even taken into account.

I wasn't able to participate in that many events, but thank you everyone for organizing this! It was great to log on and see so many fleet members playing!

I had great fun in the Fleet PVP, I wish I could have made it to more events but I was a bad boy and hadn't gotten my Tree or any of my Christmas shopping done.

It looks like the bill has been stalled in parliament, according to news sources:

http://m.allafrica.com/stories/201212150001.html/

though it's scheduled to be voted on in February. This woman is truly brave for speaking up, in the face of current and proposed laws. It's truly sad that this sort of discrimination is endorsed at a governmental level in so many places across the world. Hopefully people like her will be the catalyst for change there, in the near future.

Makes me ask myself if I do enough for people like me, who don't enjoy the freedoms that I do. How does one tackle issues that are so much bigger than them?

Thanks for sharing :)

Oh please... did you REALLY fall for Ozzie's old "pool boy" routine...?

The only reason Ozzie needs a pool boy is for cleaning out his spinal lance's emitter coils!

You're right, of course. I based my statement on Pacific Standard Time (time conversion - always so confusing!). Still those times were not exactly great for European players.

I'm not even sure if anything can be done about this, given that all the event organizers probably had lots and lots to do with creating the festivities. Asking them to do another shift for European players would be too much, I get that. :)

Many of the event organizers are from the Pacific Time zone and that would've made it 11AM - 6:30PM; meaning they gamed right through lunch and dinner. There really isn't a perfect time to run events. That's why we plan 8 hour long stretches of events so hopefully the majority of players would be able to log in and participate in at-least part of the events.

Was there any playthrough of "Shadows of the Past"? Got a few reviews for the mission over the weekend and I think I recognized some of the names from the fleet roster. So, if the event had anything to do with, even more thanks from me. :)

Yes! They ran through your mission on Saturday for the Foundry Mission event!

Are you sure you have the times converted right? The times are in Eastern Time which is -5 and from what I see, Germany is +1 so there should only be a 6 hour difference. That's make it 7PM - 3AM (6PM - 2AM for our British players).

Anyway, the event looked like lots of fun. So I figure those who did attend had a blast. Well done and congratulations.

Oh lala... What a blast. A weekend filled with the companionship of our fleet mates. Times like these where I am extra glad to be part if this fleet (I'm always glad to be, hence the "extra"). Congrats all on the success of your event.
Looking forward to Winter Whirl 2013....

I'm sure you'll all join me in thanking everyone who made this event possible, namely the Admiral and Fleet Captains of the morale department:

@MrIzzy
@Sinner68
@DoctorDisaster
@Xakhareth
as well as everyone else who came together to host the event. I know that the preparation for the events that everyone enjoyed this weekend, began far in advance of the Winter Whirl.

Thanks very much to everyone who attended the events throughout the weekend! Much appreciated!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

So I received my "complimentary" coins today but I feel shortchanged. I've been getting 500 but today I received 100. Is that the normal rate for subscribers then?

Re: Ship Names

December 15 2012
Ah, ship names. It's one of the best parts of this game!

For me, it depends on the character. For my main toon, Oren-De, I have a story built up around him and his crew. This has meant that the ship is always called 'Pandora' and that I try to keep the crew in a Phoenix-class escort as much as possible.

For my other toons, I tend to use ship names that fit with the career. For my Science, all ship names were derived from famous scientists, increasing in fame and stature as the ships got bigger. )However, I went through a stint where I remodeled him to fit the Doctor, at which point the ship became the USS Idris. :P)

For my budding Engineering captain, same thing. Famous engineers, though since there aren't that many famous engineers in real life, I tend to use Trek engineers.
