Guild Wars 2 - The Hub of Time

Would it not be cool if the scrapped ideas for "Utopia" of Guild Wars were introduced into GW2!? I would love to discover a new civilization of an advanced ancient people capable of time travel! Have the ability to travel back in time and experience the land as it was in an age long ago... I would LOVE to see Orr in it's glory days. I also like the idea of the class of the Chronomancer... speed up/slow down spells, etc. This makes me feel all warm inside... LOL.

So... I was messing around in photoshop a little trying to create a little ad for the guild. I came up with the following attached:

I can send the full-sized img by email if anyone is interested. Feel free to email them to friends or share with fellow gamers. You can also come up with your own flyers if you wish to do so.

Re: Need advice on a new graphics card compatibility.

January 18 2013
Thanks, Nick :)

I'm primarily worried about the PCI-e port compatibility. Is the performance I get going to be worth the money or is the difference in ports not a big deal?

Re: Need advice on a new graphics card compatibility.

I don't know much about AMD graphics cards; I mainly stick with Nvidia. But from what it looks like all those cards are pretty good options. I would stick with the high memory when possible. :P

I removed my post because I didn't read yours carefully enough. If you have an AMD chipset, you should stick with their hardware...that's probably why mine is a bit flakey on....well..my Nvidia N-force motherboard. LOL!

*facepalm*

So before i make an ass of myself further, Let me gracefully bow out of this one before i give you bad information and let the real experts chime in. HA!

For under $300 you can get a beast of a card. I love my Radeon 6870.

Best! B)

Thanks Ras :)

But I was told that AMD processors couldn't run Nvidia cards, is this not true?

Need advice on a new graphics card compatibility.

January 17 2013
Hello Fleetie Darlings.

So my old Radeon card finally began to give out on me. It never used to make a sound but recently I could really hear the fan laboring to keep it cool and the game would start to lag and skip whenever the graphics requirements became too heavy.

I bought a new card that was the current version of the same model:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7192175&csid=_61

It should have worked fine but even without full graphics settings it was still lagging. I played around with the clocking to no avail.

I'm trying to find more powerful card but all the cards I'm finding require a pci-e 3.0 and 2.1 but my HP 3.ghz x4 amd cpu with 8gb ram only has 2.0 ports. I've heard that any graphics cards with higher port requirements won't work well and I'm wondering how true that is or if anyone knows where I can find a good card for my comp with 2.0 ports. My budget is about $300 and if it is ok to use a higher port card with my comp I've narrowed it down to these choices:

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=NU-560-220-0004&cpc=RESX

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD7870-DC2-2GD5-PB-R&cat=VCD

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6820401

If anyone has any advice or expertise in these matters I'd sure appreciate it. I'm totally lost :(

Re: Guesting Announced!

January 17 2013
Glad this is coming but, as a British man playing on a NA server, I'm gutted that guesting isn't going to work across regions.

Apparently it worked worldwide in Guild Wars 1 but this is better than nothing. :)

Guesting Announced!

January 17 2013
ArenaNet Announces Guesting Implementation with the Jan 28th update!

CITIZENS, I have an important announcement to make.

Previously, we’ve talked about a feature called guesting, which allows you to play with your friends on other worlds. The wait is over! Guesting is coming to a world near you with our update on January 28th!

Before I go into more detail about how it will work and what kinds of restrictions exist, I want to talk about a very important change that will come with the introduction of guesting: free world transfers will no longer be available. With the current restriction of one transfer every 7 days in place, make sure that you will be on the world you intend to play on before January 28th, because after that date, you’ll have to pay a gem fee to transfer worlds.

With that out of the way, here is how guesting works:

Guesting allows you to play on a world other than your home world. Just follow these steps:
 • On the character select screen, click the “World Selection” button.
 • Choose a world you would like to guest on and select the “Guest” button.
 • Select any of your characters and select “Play” to log in to the world you picked.

Guesting comes with a few restrictions:

 • Because (different from a world transfer) we are not moving your character between data centers, you may only guest on worlds in the same region as your home world. Players on North American home worlds cannot guest on European worlds or vice versa.
 • You may not participate in World vs. World on your guest world. If you choose to enter World vs. World on the world you are guesting on, you’ll be moved back to your home world. If you want to play World vs. World on the world you’re guesting on, you must perform a full world transfer to that world.
 • You’re eligible to guest on only 2 different worlds at a time. Each time you guest on a world, that world becomes one of your eligible guest worlds for the next 24 hours. After 24 hours, you may choose to guest on a different world. You may log in to any world you are eligible to guest on as many times as you wish with no restriction.
 • Guesting on worlds that are full or highly populated increases your risk of being put into an overflow map.

As I mentioned above, with the introduction of guesting there will no longer be free world transfers:

 • Transferring to a new home world will now cost a gem fee.
 • The gem fee for world transfers is based on the population of the world you want to transfer to. Transferring to a high population world will be more expensive.
 • Each account is still limited to one world transfer every 7 days.
 • Players will still not be able to transfer to worlds that are “Full.”

I am sure many of you are happy to finally being able to play on other worlds with your friends without having to leave your home world, so go forth and guest to your heart’s content (and hug the next quaggan you meet).

It's great to see ArenaNet following through on this. B)

Re: List of LGBT Foundry Missions

January 17 2013
I think occasionally it needs to be in the focal point, especilly when we have such issues around it still, but on going you just need to feed characters in where normally it would be a straight person/couple. I.e. you could swap them round and it would be th esame and actual sexuality isn't even mentioned. Essentially that's the highest stage and where people really want to see it.

But the idea of LGBT refugees is good, though TOS usually did it in metaphors. I think TNG had that third gender episode which was as close as mainstream Trek ever got to addressing sexuality. How about taking inter-species love but dressing the issues said group or couple facing entirely in the ways and language the gay community has been attacked?

One of the problems I see is that to do a proper metaphor with LGBT rights, at some point you need to look at religion. It's very sensative and I'm worried about the T&C on foundry.

Alrighty guys... it's time to get some action going on. I've put together a schedule of events focusing on dungeon runs, guild missions and some WvW. If there's anything that we can add to the event lists, please share. This list is only for reoccurring events. Other scheduled events will appear on the sites "Events" section.

Members will not be required to participate in these events but must represent the guild during the start of a mission if they are logged in at the time. It is highly encouraged to take part and help those in need. Having the chance to group with fellow guildies instead of pugs is rewarding and fun.

Events (excluding guild missions) will begin 7 PM and 10 PM EST on the day listed and last as long as necessary (Generally 1-2 hours)

Timezone Conversion per. pnuttbuttah
https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=3%2F16%2F2013+|+5pm+edt

Dungeons, Fractals or WvW groups depending on guild interest at that time. A guild officer will be available most Monday's at 7 PM EST and will ask in guild chat for interested members.

Guild hosted events are created by the guild members using the "Events" tool. Events can be made up of any kind of player driven activity such as races, scavenger hunts, manhunts, etc. The member holding the event should reward top contestants prizes and may ask Elquin for support if needed.
Wednesday - Map Completion.
Thursday - Guild Raid at 7 PM EST

Guild Raids will consist of 2 parties. It is recommended that you use TeamSpeak.

thats sounds pretty cool.

Was thinking of one here at my desk, involving a race of alien refugees that were chased away from their world because they were the LGBT of their own world. A little more of an extreme condition, like if you look at Uganda. The idea being that you need to save them and try to help out with their own people; think of the TOS episodes of "we were once like you, but we evolved, you can too" scenarios.

That's a really cool idea, Star Trek has always been morality plays that hold up a mirror to our societies own ugliness. The foundry is a great too for people to do that and maintain what Star Trek is all about.
I've been thinking of doing a mission or a 3 mission arc and while I would have LGBT characters I wouldn't make it the focal point of the store (not that that isn't cool) because it seems for most cultures including our own in the future, one's personal sexual preference isn't really a big deal. Which is really how it should be I think.
