I too did something like this many years ago, I'd definitely be down to give this a try... It'll be a fun way to explore my two regular toons.

I was involved in something like this nine years ago. I forget the exact name of the site, but for all I know I was playing with some of you guys. Ylis's first officer takes his name from the character I played on there.

I definitely want to be involved, but given a heavy workload this semester, not sure how much I will be.

Re: A Guide to the Weapon Types of Space Combat

February 03 2013
This is fantastic...

I typically run with disruptors as a sci captain in a sci boat, because I feel it's my responsibility to make sure others are doing as much damage as they can be. It hurts in some missions, though, since with a 15 second debuff, I'm able to keep them debuffed a lot -- but don't get credit for the 10% additional damage everyone is is able to do.

What's your thought on Quantum vs. Photon? The game lists photon weapons a having higher DPS, but I hear so many people in game recommend Quantum over them. I guess there could be strategic reasons for that, but it seems to me that long-term DPS should be the primary concern.

----

If you ever find something like this for ground weapons, please share, too. I can never figure out what types of weapons I should be using on the ground.

I love weapons with Full Auto Sweep, but notice the DPS on them doesn't ever feel as good as advertised, and some of the 'lower' DPS weapon types actually perform just as well or better. Then again, I don't really know how to parse them...

Count me in as well! This is a great way to inter-mingle with others who have their own storylines, etc. Thanks, Bren! Looking forward to diving in.

New Stonewall Writing RP Proposal

February 02 2013
Hi everyone,

I have an idea for a new fleet-based roleplay that I'd like to share with you all.

The roleplay is not in-game, but a written one. It will revolve around the day-to-day running of Starbase Stonewall, the headquarters of Starfleet's Stonewall Fleet. Starbase Stonewall serves as the base of operations for the Fleet Admiralty and the main port of call for the captains and ships of the fleet. It is run by the Commander of Starbase Operations and his/her crew.

Fleeties can play as a member of the starbase personnel, or as one of their toons and their crew while they are visiting or docked at the starbase. Fleeties can write joint missions with each other or write personal logs about their experiences.

The idea is not to have the roleplay take place in the game itself, but simply to draw from our experiences in STO and create a literary version of the Stonewall fleet starbase, our toons, our ships and our crews.

My plan for how to do this practically is to use the Nova RP system. It would be hosted on a separate site. If you'd like to have a look at how it works, please take a look at www.ussheyerdahl.com. It's fairly easy to use and has a lot of great features that help keep things running smoothly. The system can have different crew manifests; it can have different missions running similtaneously and different mission categories; there are also bio pages for each character. The writing interface is very easy to use and makes collaborative writing for joint posts very easy.

If you are interested, please reply to this post so that I can have an indication of how many people like the idea. If there's enough interest, we can set the wheels in motion. Also please feel free to ask any questions.

Thank you!
Bren

Sounds awesome :) I'll definitely try to make it to the event, work permitting. I've played the demo and think they the way you're planning on running this event is really quite ingenious. It should provide a really smooth game experience for everyone. I'm very excited to give this a try!

Great idea, Res!

Re: Ship Names

Brock's ships are all named for bladed weapons, all beginning with S except the Claymore and the Claymore II. So I named his Ambassador the Sabre. I don't know what I'm doing with other captains yet. They're not all going to get an Ambassador/Kamarag, mostly just my lower-level ones since most of my upper-level already have Oddys.

Scavenger Hunt Event!

February 02 2013
Hello Stonewall Fleet!

I am running on February 10 at 5pm GMT -7, the next Scavenger Hunt event! This event will be different from the last one, in that I am using the foundry to conduct the mission. Contestants will obtain the foundry mission, and at the designated start time I will reveal the location of the first clue. Players will then have to interact with objects and NPC's within the game to get the next clue until they complete the challenge.

A demonstration of this event is available, simply search "Scavenger Hunt Demo" in the foundry and you can get a taste of what to expect by playing it. I look forward to running the event for you all, see you then!

I named my ambassador U.S.S. Chiune Sugihara after a the Japanese Vice Consul to Lithuania he (and his wife) help (spending 18 to 20 hours a day stamping visas) save 6000 Jews from the Nazis in WWII.

I'm naming my Ambassador Class Ship the USS Shrodinger after the temporal effect that happens in the mission. The theory of Shrodinger's cat is basically sort of a temporal/alternate universe version of the "if a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?" question.

And in keeping with the general Greco/Roman myths and monsters of the world theme I have for my KDF's I'm naming my new Ferengi D'kora Maurader the Midas. Although I was also thinking the Avarice. Anyone know the Klingon word for that?

Could not find Avarice in the dictionary but I did find greed Q'Ur

Re: Music?

February 01 2013
Thanks for these! I really loved State of The New Year. That Thievery Corporation track took me back almost ten years! Quite a nostalgic revisit. :) I really enjoy your taste in music and I look forward to hearing more, when you get around to making them.

Listening to these, it reminded me of the mixes that I'd been working on at 8tracks, but never finished. So today I finished one for a change.

Last year (2012) was quite a rough year for me. I was living up in the mountains and it can get quite lonely there, even though it's very beautiful. These are some songs that helped me get through the year. The mix is called Melancholy Mountains, so feel free to have a listen if you like. http://8tracks.com/frantaljaard/melancholy-mountains

Thanks again for sharing your mixes!

One HUGE caveat about this finding: it applies only to a people in their mid-20s. I wouldn't be surprised if the trend starts to reverse itself with increasing age.
