I still think we should refer to our fleet either as a fleet or a legion, I'm partial to a legion in the old roman style of naming, that's what I meant by a Roman Republic naming style as opposed to a Roman Empire naming style not that the word Republic would be in our fleet name, we're already in the Republic, that would be like calling the USMC the United States Republic Marine Corps...or calling my unit Republican Oscar Battery etc... uh No ;)

What I meant was something similar to Legio 3 "Stonewall" but in Romulan. The 3 cause we're the 3rd fleet or legion of Stonewall in the game.

Thanks for sharing of yourself with us all; I enjoyed the read and learning a bit about you. It's always interesting to learn of other people's stories, the obstacles to happiness that they faced and how they overcame those obstacles to eventually be at peace with who they are, as LGBT people.

What's cool is that one of the folks that got tangled up in all of this contacted me with an abject apology and reconciliation, which was more than I was expecting, though honestly, knowing this person, I should have raised my expectations.

Personally i would prefer if the fleet name had neither Empire or Republic in it.
Empire is inaccurate (curse you Abrams) and Republic sticks in my craw.

So, some of you know that folks have been posting a red-and-pink version of the Human Rights Campaign logo as their Facebook userpic to show their support of LGBT rights in light of the Supreme Court deliberations going on in the US right now. I posted the pic, and it ended up blowing up into huge arguments from several people on several fronts, with each other and with me.

Today I wrote an essay to post to Facebook, which I turned around and posted to my blog. The wonderful news is that one of my friends I was arguing with most, we've had a very deep heart-to-heart and she has come around, so that was better than I had expected.

I was ready to suggest something related to 'Mnhei’Sahe'* but it's awkward to type and probably difficult to pronounce, and not to get all RP on the issue (but I'd love to) we need our context to make the right choice. Perhaps a home-grown backstory that incorporates the history without requiring us to conform to the quite awful parts of the canon culture imperatives? (Really Star Trek can oversimplify to the point of racism. All s have characteristic.)

Absent any major storytelling on our part, Tal D'era is pithy and succinct.

I'm pretty sure we will be part of the Republic under D'tan and not the Imperial or Tal'shiar remnants under Sela. At least that's what I gleaned from the mini site.
