Very cool, but I can't seem to find a price aside from something that says $20. It seems fairly ambiguous, though, is it $20 a month? $20 an issue (ie twice a month)? $20 a year?

It sounds very very nifty, but I'm on a bit of a tight budget, so I gotta watch my outputs. >.

I must say, I was never a big fan of the KDF side of the game, but now I love it! The KDF event was GLORIOUS! I had fun, and I can't wait for the next one.

It would stand to reason that if Admiral Marcus wanted to find the Botany Bay, then he would seek out Doctor Arik Soong's grandson, Noonian Soong, for more information.

Dr. Soong would then use this opportunity to promote his own research, and instead of being in seclusion on Omicron Theta, he's a prominent scientist at Starfleet instead.

I think this was the first big KDF event that I've seen since I've been here at Stonewall. It was about time! Haha :P I was really only able to participate in the trivia event due to having a low-level Klink! I did get to see the bat'leth tournament though, which I thought was way cool! And I now have bragging rights as I can successfully say that I have beat Nick in melee combat... twice!!! (Heart you Nick!)

Thanks again to those who worked, assisted and contributed to this event. See what can be accomplished through team work? :) Thanks also to Voleron for allowing me to be a guest judge! Was great fun.

So I just saw the new JJverse trek offering and it was great! It was an amazing Star Wars movie and I think he's going to be very happy at Disney.

and just because we are all thinking it... Spock's getting a little too Kirk crazy himself in this movie. What will Kirk's baby mama have to do to keep her man?

And just think..

A whole generation of people will grow up with this version of Star Trek instead of the Original Series, Next Gen, DS9 or Voyager.

Later, many will look back at the aforementioned predecessors and think they sucked because they weren't anything like the movies with which they grew up.

This is also my take-away after seeing I/D. It was the action film I expected with all the drama, emotion and FX.

I wasn't wow-ed by it, but I don't condemn it. I'm still merely taking this "alternate" timeline with a grain of salt, at least for now. It has left me curious enough to see what the next film brings..

Foremost on my mind? We need a new series back on TV.

I have to agree with you. I was very skeptical about the movie, especially when I found out before hand about the plot twists, but I really liked where they went with this. It was much better than the first one, which isn't saying much, to be sure.

I'm going to have to disagree with Voleron's assessment of the franchise. It really sounds like you're trying to blame the victims here. The reason why the later Star Trek movies, especially Nemesis, sucked so bad, was just because of the greed of the studios. They didn't want to spend money on good writing, so we got junk. John Logan is such an unimaginative hack, and I knew he was just going to rehash other, better stories, like TWOK. Enterprise was also squarely in the lap of the studio. It's not that fans abandoned it. Remember that for the first season or so, they didn't even want to call it Star Trek so they didn't have to bother with canon.

I can always justify inconsistencies with the alternate timeline mumbo-jumbo. I just don't take it seriously, and it allows me to be happy with the entertainment, while I wait for a real Star Trek series to make it's way back to TV.




I can almost understand the studio's frustration with the Trek franchise, though. Trekkies and Trekkers are notoriously difficult people to please, so when how many movies (Generations, Insurrection and Nemesis come to mind), which were all met with stiff opposition from the Trek community, and their new television series (Enterprise) was so unsupported by Trek fans to the point that it had to be cancelled, it makes sense for them to have thrown their hands up in exasperation and try to make the franchise appeal to a wider audience. In a sense, it could almost be argued that Star Trek fans have done this to themselves.

In fairness, I also refused to watch Enterprise when it was on TV, so I'm as much to blame as anyone... now a few years later, I've bought and watched the series and enjoyed it immensely. There was a lot of good Trek in that series, but I couldn't let myself see it at the time.

I guess, in conclusion.. go see James Bond: In space (aka: Star Trek), and I think you'll still enjoy it ;)

I feel ya Renegade, I really really really really really don't want to see this movie and I have avoided all efforts by my other "Star Trek" fans to see this but when my grandmother asked me to go with her....well I guess I'll be seeing it tomorrow. I'll just pretend it's a generic science fiction movie with a Heinlein twist.
