Tactical Ship Selection

October 22 2014
Over the lead-up to Delta Rising and even more so after the Launch of Delta Rising, there has been a lot of discussion regarding Tactical Captains in Cruisers and Science Ships. While the Tactical Readiness Department understand the desire to fly iconic ships, such as the Galaxy, Sovereign and Intrepid, as a tactical captain, these ships are simply not adequate to take advantage of all your tactical training can afford you.

The new high end Elite content is far more difficult than we’ve experienced in the past. It does requires Captains to be fully invested, skilled and geared, this also means taking advantage of all your class’ skills, advantages and ship’s abilities and mitigating your weakness and vulnerabilities. While there are exceptions to every rule, those exceptions are generally maxed out and have spend the large amounts of EC/Dil/Zen to be the exception.

First I want to address, Tactical Captains in a Science Ship. The standard Science ship has 6 weapon slots, 3 forward and 3 aft. That is a deficit to the 4 forward and 2 aft or 4 forward and 3 aft of an escort or raider.

“Well how is 4 forward and 2 aft better than 3 and 3, they both add up to 6”

Simple, Escorts and raiders can equip dual heavy cannons which do significantly more damage than beam arrays and even dual beam banks. Also most ships that have 4/2 configuration has a significant increase to their weapons power which more than makes up for the rear weapon deficit.

“I want all the cool Science Power!”

There are Science focused escort that are available to you so you can use the Science Boff abilities. Ships like the Prometheus and the Dyson Ships allows tactical captains to fly Science Oriented ship, while preserving your Tactical Captain Advantages. You don’t need to have a dedicated science ship to take advantage of the Cdr LvL Science abilities. You can really make do with Lt. Cdr Science abilities simply because this is as much as your captain skills and ship’s power level will only be able to take advantage of the Lt Cdr abilities.

Finally While Science Ships have higher shield modifier they have the weakest hull in the game. And in this era of shield penetration if you have weak hull you need to have abilities that help take the fire off you. And while Science and engineering captains have skills like Scattering Field and Miracle Worker, the tactical Captain have Attack pattern Alpha and Go Down Fighting. Neither of which help with Survivability.

Now, Escorts in cruisers, while on paper this looks like a great idea, 4 fore and 4 aft vs the 5/2, 4/3 or 4/2 Escort/Raider configuration. Higher Hull, higher shields and I get to Separate my Saucer/chevron! You’re also slower and unable to equip Dual Cannons. These two factors affect damage output and survivability.

“Well if I have higher hull how is being slow a liability?”

Speed = Defense, the Higher your speed the Higher your defense, the Higher your defense the harder you are to hit. It’s a bit confusing but Defense does not affect how much damage you take, if affect whether or not you’re even hit. While you have abilities like Evasive Maneuvers and Emergency Power to Engines, you’re still slow in space and do not have the speed to evade many attacks which will melt a ship’s shields and hull down to 0 no matter how high it is.
Engineers have the benefit of abilities like Rotate Shield Frequency and Miracle Worker as well as Engineering Fleet to heal and add damage resistance. Making up for this shield/hull healing and resistance deficit requires that you effectively reduce your damage output and weapon’s power level. You will need to fill your Engineering Boff slot with Healing Abilities and any available Science and Tactical slots with healing abilities that will require high Auxilliary power to work well.

“What about Aux to Bat Tac cruisers?”

Great plan, except you would need to be super specialized and you would have very little room for healing abilities. And even if that wasn’t an issue we’d still be running into power issues. Even with the boost Aux to bat gives every other systems you’re still firing 8 weapons at the same time and remember higher weapons power = higher energy damage. Also if you are able to mitigate your energy levels, Aux to Bat builds are not the cheapest builds. A Fully Realized Aux to bat Build will cost about 200 Mil EC

“How do Engineering Captains do it?”

Engineering Captains have EPS Power Transfer and Nadion Inversion they also have the trait EPS Manifold Efficiency. EPS Power Transfer gives a massive power boost to all Power Levels and Nadion Inversion reduces the drain abilities have on power levels. EPS Manifold Efficiency give a secondary boost to all subsystems when you use a battery or emergency power abilities.

“I don’t want to be squishy!”

A properly outfitted escort is not squishy. An Escort’s speed is it’s shield, and an escort is capable of very high speeds. If you are overwhelmed, an Escort is capable of being hit a lot less depending on how fast you’re going. An escort can also mitigate the damage down by eliminating the amount of attacker is attacking it.

“Why do you care?”

The Tactical Readiness Dept cares because we have encounter so many players in the fleet that were told to buy and whatever ship they want by well-meaning fleet mates and end up regretting it because it doesn’t do what they want it to do and not having the resources to replace the ship. With Tier 6 Ships costing 3000 Zen ($30 USD/475K Dil) picking the wrong ship has become very costly to replace, even more so when the Cruiser/Science Ship comes from a Lock Box.

Finally Escorts are some of the hardest hitting ship in the game and is fairly versatile when properly outfitted. If you need more guides as to how to set up an Escort, watch our 2nd Livestream that’s archived at: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZlWofQdaKaGqU47FzO3OmYrKqyc5nO1j.

[EVENT] Dilithium Bonus Weekend of Greed! (Part III)

October 20 2014
The Voth Battleground will be Dino Tagging.

We will team up and then join an instance about to spawn dino's, run to each dino site, tag them (shoot the dino or the Medic Engineers once or twice) and move to the next dino. Once all three are down, we switch to a new instance almost ready to pop and repeat.

This is the most efficient way to run this event. Anyone wishing to have more info on how to do this please 'thank you' this post and we can arrange a time to run through it pre event! :)

[EVENT] Captain Biography Contest! General Kthor

October 20 2014
KDF General Kthor "Korby" of House Konom, is the grandson of Korby, son of Gava of House Konon. Korby was a half-Klingon/half-Human who served as an ambassador to the Klingon Empire in the 24th century. Korby was adopted by Konon, one of the first Klingons to serve Starfleet under the command of Captain Kirk in the 24th century. In time Korby married and had a daughter, Gava who had a relationship with Worf of House Mogh, now of House Martok. However, Kthor's father was not Worf.

Kthor was born with the same light skin and near blond white hair of his grandfather. Once a mark of dishonor as the result of a failed human/klingon hybrid, House Konom sees it as a mark of pride. Though House Konom has maintained good relations with humans throughout its history, Khtor is a Klingon first.
Having been assimilated by the borg and then rescued by a joint Klingon-Orion team, Kthor has strong affinity to the Orions. As his family has ties to the diplomatic circles of both governments. Kthor spent some time as a child on Cestus III and even visited the Gorn homeworld. During those years he came to respect the Gorn and even though the Empire now rules the Kingdom, considers those Gorn under his command, friends. His respect for all those under his command has created a ship free of the usual turmoil and intrigue. With the return to peace, officers of the Federation have found the ship a model of discipline and efficiency, and it has become a top requested ship for the reinstated exchange program.

During his career, Kthor and his crew gained glory for his House and the Empire, including the capture of a Breen Chel Grett Warship, he named the I.K.S. Thag’lhr, which is commanded by his life partner, Kurrozh, a Klingon-Human hybrid who has strong connections to Klingon Intelligence. The crew of the Thag’lhr is diverse and includes, liberated Borg, humans of both universes, Orions, Gorn, even a Voth defector. Any thought such diversity would prove a weakness have been repeatedly discounted by their numerous acts of bravery in service to the Empire. Indeed, without irony, Khtor often paraphrases the Vulcans in telling his fellow Klingons “in diversity we find strength, in our diversity we find glory!” As Kthor and his crew begin their journeys into the Delta Quadrant, that philosophy will be tested, and proven correct. For in embracing our differences, we embrace ourselves.

The Suggestion Box: Oct 20th - Dec 20th

October 20 2014
It's been over six years since NicholasJohn first dreamed of Stonewall Fleet and in that time we have come a long way.

We are now a multi-game gaming Network with hundreds of active members.

I'd like to thank each and every one of you, past and present, for choosing to call Stonewall your home. It means the world to us that anybody can come to a friendly safe place and enjoy some gaming with friends without the fear of harassment for simply being who they are.

But it's about time we asked for some feedback. We are not perfect and we have made mistakes. So I have created a forum called The Suggestion Box which you should see just below the public section of the forums.

I'd like to ask each and every one of you to start posting suggestions on how we can improve and what you'd like to see Stonewall become in the future.

Some topics you might want to talk about:
  • The Website and any improvements or new features we can add,
  • Changes to how we operate as a leadership team,
  • How we handle expansion guilds,
  • Guilds you'd like to see in future games,
  • How we handle membership issues (discipline),
  • Stonewalls Code of Conduct*,
  • ..Or anything else you can think of.

I only ask that when making your post you do not speak directly about a member of the leadership team or any other member of the community. If you are having a problem with someone else please report it as you would normally do so.

If you wish to discuss how the leadership team operates and ways we can improve then please do so generally as to not target individuals.

*You can discuss ways in which the Code of Conduct may change or how we can improve the way we handle Code of Conduct issues but please note that our PG-13 policy is a fundamental part of who we are and, even though we are open to suggestions on how to improve, it won't be going anywhere.

We have decided on a two-month period to give everyone chance to have their say.

If you decide to give feedback just head down to the Suggestion Box and start up a thread. Thank you.

Halish

I'm locking this thread in case people accidentally post suggestions here and they get lost. If you wish to reply directly about this announcement then please do so in the suggestion box section.

October 19 2014
I thought it was ugly at first but I couldn't afford the pack so I got it as my new ship and I really love it. Best ship ever for me.

I think the design might be referencing some of this too ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2014/06/11/this-is-the-amazing-design-for-nasas-star-trek-style-space-ship-the-ixs-enterprise/ ) that is, taking the outer ring, fitting it to the front and rotating it to be more in line with the ship's axis. Or in a egg and chicken kind of way perhaps.

Character Biography

October 18 2014
Jadis Dax's Biography. Please enjoy.

Captain Jadis Kinséy Tigán was born on Trill in the year 2370, her parents met while their ships were docked at Deep Space Nine during the installation phase of advanced Starfleet weapons systems upgrades prior to the Klingon-Cardassian war. It wasn’t until the year 2385, a decad after the Dominion Wars, that Jadis’s family decided to retire from Starfleet to live the simpler life back on Trill. During this time Jadis received training to become a host to the symbiont from another Trill. It wasn’t until she turned twenty three that she joined Starfleet. She became known for ability to analyse Borg technology and be able to apply Borg syntax algorithms to increase Starfleet Academy's main computer information processing speedby 15 %.

By the time she was twenty-six; she graduated from Starfleet Academy with high distinction and was given her first posting on the U.S.S. Farragut as the ship’s main science officer under the command of Captain Jeffrey Giles. During her time on the Farragut, she was called upon by the Trill Symbiosis Commission to join with the Dax symbiont. She felt the greatest honour in being able to be the host of a very renowned and respected symbiont. She was requested to come back to Trill to undergo the joining ceremony. The experience of the joining took a major toll on her ability to processes the memories and being able to separate her memories from her previous host’s memories and feelings. After she made a full recovery and was able to travel, she returned to the Farragut and proceeded with her duties. Her newly formed persona, strong, confident and serine in, nature were very characteristic of pasts hosts.

The U.S.S. Farragut was sent out to the Neutral Zone near Romulan space in the Alpha Centauri Sector. Its purpose was to catalog spatial distortions which looked similar to what the U.S.S. Voyager had encountered during its time in the Delta Quadrant. Before completing their scan of the distortion, a Borg Sphere appeared out of transwarp and began its attack on the Farragut. Both Captain Giles and the Commander were killed, and the 2nd officer was nowhere to be found during the attack. Jadis had to assume command and hold off the the Borg as long as she could. Her symbiont's knowledge of the Borg was very limited besides what she had read during her time as a cadet in the Academy as well as from her symbiont's pervious hosts experiences.

The last think Jadis remembered upon waking up with a green lights shining around her was a group of Borg drones appearing on the bridge and beginning to attack and assimilating the crew stationed there. Jadis was caught in the blast of an exploding console and knocked unconscious. She turned her head and saw several crew members whom she knew had been assimilated into the collective. Her worst fear came to life before her very eyes. The next feeling she felt was at her neck, where a pair of assimilation tubules piercing her carotid artery, injecting Borg nanites throughout her body.

Jadis’s eye opened up on an ice world, she couldn’t feel her body, and was feeling disoriented from the massive impalement of a metal pole through her abdomen. She looked around the area but knew something was wrong, she was hearing some soft voices as if someone was whispering in her ear, very closely. She looked around and reached out her left arm and saw that it had been replaced with a cybernetic prosthesis of Borg origin. She didn't remember anything about how it got there, let alone any memory of who she was. The next few moments became a blur to her as she saw silhouettes of a group of people appearing in front of her before losing consciousness due to her injuries.

She awoke laying on a biobed in a sickbay. She attempted to move but felt restrained. She spoke out with her mechanically modulated voice that the Borg gave her. A person in a silver body suit came forth and said, "You were damaged and we have made attempts to correct this.". Jadis was mesmerized by the person who spoke to her. She had pale, golden blonde hair, with a silvery crescent of metal encompassing her left orbital eye contour. She wondered if she was dreaming or if it were a hallucination of some sort. “Doctor, Please remove the forcefield that is holding this drone in the biobed,” said the silver-suited stranger. "Drone, what is this person talking about?" Jadis thought, and then she remembered about her arm. Jadis didn't know what she could do or say at this moment of time to be able to understand what had happened to her.

Jadis' disconnection from the Collective allowed her to remember who she was, what she was and what year it was. The year was 2407; a long time has passed to what her service record had contained prior to her assimilation into the Collective. Both her parents had died as they attempted to search for Farragut’s remains out in the Alpha Centauri Sector. They were killed by the Romulan Warbird Virinat; she was reminded about the incident on Romulus back in 2387. These people and their names meant nothing to her, as all she remembers were these 9 people whom seemed important to her, but she couldn't recall their faces, yet she knew them as well as she knew herself. Then it suddenly hit her, the symbiont!

Jadis’s symbiont was injured due to the abdominal trauma, but made a full recovery thanks to is infusion of Borg technology, though she could not understand why the symbiont was not removed when they were both assimilated. Starfleet Medical wanted to get their hands on the symbiont in order to study and understand the nature of its partially assimilated state. The Trill Symbiosis Commission objected to and insisted to have the symbiont removed and destroyed. Since being released from Starfleet Medical, Jadis has conducted her own investigation into the condition of the Dax symbiont she still carries within her. She has determined that the symbiont's size is slightly bigger than it originally was prior to her assimilation into the Collective. The symbionts natural chemicals it produced had increased significantly. Jadis has theorized that with these changes to her metabolic, the symbionts healing capabilities are higher than any known symbiont on record.

Jadis refused and appealed to both of Starfleet HQ and the Trill Symbiosis Commission and made it clear that no attempts at examining or removing of the symbiont would be done as they deemed Jadis as an individual and no longer a Borg Drone. This sparked massive debates on the Trill Homeworld on the fact that the Dax symbiont was no longer a symbiont fully recognised by Trill standards. Jadis was approached by many people who insisted on examining it to see what changes were done which were supervised closely to ensure no harm came to Jadis.

The next two years after being found on the P class planet, Starfleet had asked if Jadis would consider taking up a field commission of Captain with her insights and knowledge of the Borg as there has been an increase in Borg activity. Jadis accepted the field commission of Captain and became the Captain of the U.S.S. Armagosa and the U.S.S. Olympus. Her dual command of these two ships was very rare and unusual, but she found the need to use one ship to take care of imminent needs to nearby planets and the other for escort and protection missions. She mainly commands the Armagosa for its quick nimble maneuvering capabilities in combat.

During her time of being in command, there was a transporter incident where Jadis became two people. This incident happened twice before with Commander William Riker and Captain James T Kirk. But in this case, Jadis’s twin, Jade wasn’t just a copy of Jadis, but was the complete polar opposite of Jadis. Instead of being kind and compassionate, Jade was ruthless, analytical and aggressive. In Jade’s eyes the world was too soft and she wanted to cause trouble during her stay on the Armagosa. It wasn’t until Jade left the ship and found her calling to join the Klingon Empire during their war with the Federation. Not much was certain on how much information she knows about the Starfleet protocols and codes to access encrypted messages from Starfleet. After this incident Starfleet had changed all necessary protocols to prevent possible sabotage by the Klingon Empire. As far as Starfleet was concerned, this incident was to be kept confidential and not disclosed without Beta level clearance. As such, Jadis’s twin Jade, was as far as anyone was concerned, a rogue Trill who was impersonating a Starfleet Captain in hopes to destabilized the Alpha Quadrant by fostering an image of corruption in the Starfleet Ranks. The pair have met in battle several times but neither were able to gain the upper hand over the other. The only physical characteristic that differentiates the them from one another, is the sizable scar along the left side of her face, obtained from a ship to ship combat between the U.S.S. Armagosa and the I.K.S. Vurn.

We now have a Guild Flagship!

October 17 2014
I will just need to add a slight change to the cost of movement. The 20k amount is what will probably change as it's the fuel cost for ship movement. I was only able to look at moving it to Tython which costs 20k. The other planets will probably be more expensive BUT might be cheaper. I think the amount is going to vary just like it does with our own ships. So we will have to check the fuel cost each time from where the flagship might currently be to move it to another planet. Unfortunately, the amounts that would be listed while it is near the fleet (which is its current location) won't stay the same if the ship is someplace else so it won't be possible to make an accurate list to refer to. We'll have to check the planet list each week to determine the going cost.

We could have a monthly or weekly poll where everyone can vote for where they'd like for us to move it to. At the end of every week, the winning planet would get it moved there. Unless we were doing some kind of guild event and having the flagship present benefited it in some way.

*Chevy Chase in bounty hunter gear* We here at Knights of Stonewall know that the universe needs help from good people, but even the strongest Jedi can use some help from time to time, thats why we bring you "The Stonewall". For a small fee we can park this wonderful Star Cruiser over the planet of your choice. Annoyed at the evil barista on Hoth, send him a personal gift assortment of red hot laser. Had enough of that glaring monster on Voss, you know the one, send it some screaming missiles. When your do or do not, has gone and went, send in some hot plasma. Brought to you by the leadership of your guild, for when only the best planetary bombardments will do.
